Introducing... the next generation
On Saturday, February 16, 2002, your favourite soap, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, introduced a new phase in the life of the Viranis.
The episode began with the title song we have got so used to over two years and over 300 episodes. Ba applies a tilak to Dadaji's photograph and turns around to address the viewers. She has visibly aged, yet her presence is as comforting as it has been from the beginning of Kyunki Saas...
Ba tells us that 20 years have passed since we last met the Viranis. She has made the transition from bahu to saas to grandmother to a great-grandmother. She recalls some moments from the lives of the Viranis - moments all of us are only too familiar with.
We then hear Savita singing while while watering the Tulsi plant. She too has aged and has some memories to share. She tells us about all that has happened in the past 20 years.
Tulsi then appears with her treasury of memories - both happy and sad. She talks about her children. Gautam's name still brings tears to her eyes, since there's still no trace of Kiran, Aarti and Gautam.
Mansukh, Himmat and JD then turn up, share a few laughs and some memories. Finally comes the surprise of the evening - a spokesman in the form of Jeetendra, the actor, who talks about the change in Kyunki Saas...
The episode then concludes with the title song - but that too has changed. So don't forget to tune in to the all-new Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Monday to Thursday, at 10:30 PM on STAR Plus.
