As the title reads, the review has more to do with the marketing and controversy surrounding Kuselan rather than Kuselan itself.

First, about the movie. It is a remake of Katha Parayumbol(a Malayalam

flick) that got rave reviews from Critics. It is an exact Krishna-Sudhama story with unwanted and crass ’so called’ humor by Vadivelu & a lot of masala thrown in. While there was enough time(possibly 2 minutes) to explicitly display Nayanthara’s feminine-shape and various other aspects of her physical appearance, the director could not clearly demonstrate the depth of the characters.

In a sentence, the movie is like driving a Porsche Caymen car in a crowded and pot-holed street/la

Kuselan

ne in Kasimedu(it is a small dwelling locality in Chennai - famous for the below-the-poverty line fishermen and their families). As much as we(as audience) concentrate on the vehicle(i.e. the cast, like Pasupathy, Meena, etc) the rest of the stuff like the road, crowd and the stinking smell of poop all-over(like the comedy of Vadivelu, glamor of Nayanthara, pathetic BG Music) causes everyone to quiver.

Conclusion: If you are as much of a crazy Rajni rasigan as I am, you could sit through the movie(may be with lots of cigarette breaks). Otherwise, KINDLY DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY on a pathetic movie like ’Kuselan’.

Now, to go on with what I wanted to say.

Rajni had only a guest appearance or cameo role; however, P. Vasu dragged it to have a song, some stupid dialogs and a final speech at a school function. Having known this truth, it was highly immoral of anyone to market this product as a Rajni movie - it was never meant to be. I’ve liked Rajni’s role in 6 to 60 and even Bhairavi; this single speech is a ’nothing’ in comparison.

To intentionally fraud the general public by posing a movie as something it is not, is definitely a crime and I firmly believe one should be brought to books for such an act.

However, when 1 indulges in a business(of distribution and theatre ownership) 1 ceases to be part of the ’general public’ category. They become part of business-class; as a business person they need to excercise their own judgement and make decisions. Once a decision has been made they stand to earn profit or face loss. As a distributor and/or theatre owner, I am sure no business person will part with money that he gets on top of the MG - because that is his profit. It is what he makes for taking the ’risk’ of distributing the film or showing it in the theatre.

Have we ever heard these distributors and/or theatre owners come up with a bonus for a film to the Producer because it did exceptionally well and generated much more money than expected? This should be a lesson to these people to understand the gravity of their business and be careful about how much ’risk’ they’re taking.

I sincerely believe Mani Ratnam(with his Iruvar) should never have returned anything back. He started this and with Baba’s return these folks have become so greedy now. They should be responsible for their decisions and can not blame an actor or director or producer for their pathetic decision making skills.

Having said all this - the sole responsible person for this entire fiasco is "Mr. P. Vasu". If the law of the land is clear about fraud, I hope and believe one should see P. Vasu behind bars for cheating the film’s distributors and theatre-owners.

Thank you for your time and reading this. Please feel free to share your comments, if any.
