THE OLYMPIAN

I don't know how many of you remember the 1996 Olympics held at Atlanta, Georgia. Indians didn't have much to cherish then, with only a Bronze medal from Leander Paes. There was one man who left the scene with his head held high, with a Gold medal. He is none other than the current World Heavy Weight Champion Kurt Angle. He won his medal in freestyle wrestling in the Heavy Weight division, even if he is put in the Weight Lifting category in mouthshut.

The Pittsburgh's own gold medalist had been performing for Smackdown for a long time, but later got drafted to RAW, and is now back at Smackdown, as the World Heavy Weight Champion. He always believed in the importance of he Three I's: Integrity, intensity and intelligence. There is no doubt that his intensity is matched, as we will see from his achievements, and Kurt certainly has much more to achieve in his career.

JUST PROFESSIONAL

The 237 pound wrestler has a real distinguished professional wrestling background, and it is not limited to WWE. He also has some experience as a sports commentator before entering WWE. Before winning the Gold medal, he had won lots of wrestling matches, and have managed to get a number of awards. The fact that Kurt won the Gold medal with a badly injured neck shows how much he wanted that medal, and how much he applied himself in the match.

Kurt officially debuted for the WWF on November 14, 1999 at the Survivor Series Pay Per View, and defeated Shawn Stasiak. But in most parts of his career, he had been an anti-hero and used to be part of the most wicked plans, just like Triple H used to be, with his evolution. This also seemed to have gained the Olympic Gold Medalist, the chant ''You Suck!'', especially when he enter the arena.

MORE TECHNICAL

Just like Chris Benoit, he is more of a technical wrestler rather than a power house. He uses a wide variety of moves, including his finishing move, the Angle Slam, a special version of back suplex, which was earlier called the Olympic Slam. It will seem to be a simple move, but it certainly is very effective, as he has proved it to be.

His Angle Lock is one of the most ruthless submission moves in the history of WWE, and even the best, like Hollywood Hulk Hogan have tapped to escape the hold. His attacks also include German suplexes, Belly to Belly suplexes and even the moonsault on certain occasions!

His first title was European Championship, and he also won the Intercontinental title, holding two titles at once. One of his major achievements include the victory in the King of the Ring tournament in June 2000. He later defeated the Rock to win the WWE championship. But after a few months he lost it to the Rock himself.

His second WWE championship win came against none other than Stone Cold himself, before losing it to the same man. His third came against the Big Show and later formed Team Angle with Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas, but both turned against him later. He lost his title against Brock Lesnar, before beating the same man to win the title yet again.

But the title reign was not the best in Angle's career, as Brock Lesnar managed to earn the title back, and Kurt had to spend some time away from action due to injury. He played the role of the General Manager of Smackdown for some months before he was fired from the position and was forced to wrestle again.

THE RUN CONTINUED

Angle becoming the World Heavy Weight Champion was quite a surprise, as he made his way back to Smackdown from RAW all of a sudden to compete in the ''Over the top rope challenge'' held at Smackdown. He managed to throw the powerful Mark Henry over the top rope to win the title, and also defended it against Undertaker as well as Mark Henry. Now he will be facing both Randy Orton, and the Royal Rumble winner Rey Mysterio, defending his title.

His most famous feud may be the one involving Chris Benoit. These two have been tag team partners, but they never got along, and as long as their fighting styles are concerned, they are identical on some occasions. Another one involved Brock Lesnar, and one of the most memorable one involve late Eddie Guerrero!

Let him be a hero or an anti-hero, he brings into the ring, a certain amount of ruthless aggression which makes him one of the best competitors in the current WWE roster, even matching the legends in the business. He got the muscles, he is athletic, and he has certainly got the technique, and he does his part well.....
