Blood and Gore is something which can never be imagined in the same brackets with Dharma Productions. The Johars so known for their emotional sagas(I made sure to watch Kabhi khushi Kabhi gham last night before I went for this), till death do us apart vows and family values, talking about blood!! I was majorly intrigued.

Though the storyline is quite predictable, and the tagline “Some love stories have blood in them” said it all. I like the treatment , for two reasons, no wasted time and no unnecessary emotions. A cut to cut cant drained by tears and mere emotions Ehsaan(Saif) finds a passport to US by sweeping lovely (mark me she never looked better)Avantika (Kareena) off the feet. A couple of deaths (Nauheed Cyrusi and Dia Mirza) makes her realize the bitter truth. Shes a mere instrument and there was no love after all….but she needs to save the day for herself and for all the others who would be victim to another repeat of 9/11. And what I was expecting to slack around and post interval, never dipped for a second. The movie maintains the pace.

The casting and act is brilliant. Its Kareena and Saif all the way, together and seperate. While Saif maintains the attitude of a cut cold terrorist torn between love and jihad , he gets in far better than the confused gooey Aamir of Fanaa; who could not strike the right balance. Though personally I would have preferred him a little more meaner than this, yet hes gone far beyond what I expected. Kareena is brilliant! With her face expressions and display of emotions. The climax gives the best leverage to her skills, and needs to be watched out for. Vivek Oberoi , Kirron Kher maintain the parameters of the movie but I surely expected a better screen presence of Om Puri. Considering his earlier noticeable performances, this one is nowhere near.

The songs are again well done and so is the background score, “Shukran Allah” and “Rasiya” are the ones to watch out for. They fit the movie perfectly contrary to the frivolous ones which are generally made to fit in such flicks. The backdrop and settings are also as per the mood and environment. So you see no hill capped peaks in New Delhi or local studio settings in New York. Speaking about the much talked about lovemaking scene, its probably the most commendable and best one I have seen till date. Hemant Chaturvedi as cinematographer has been brilliant in getting the right shots as per the shade or disposition of characters. Be it Dus kahaniyan or Maqbool, I have always admired his work.

Rensil D’Silva and Karan Johar has surely proved a point , that any cliché done with a fresh approach can appear commendable. Just one scene which could have been done without is the one where Saif counters Vivek and Vivek speeches him. The movie surely has a better and realistic touch to it than the ones made in the same league like Fanaa, where everything appeared a bit fake and overdone.

Kurbaan is surely a respite from the recent crap bollywood has been churning out in the name of cinema.
