.:: The Characters::.

Anjali – Kajol

Anjali Jr. – Sana Saeed

Rahul – Shah Rukh Khan

Dadi – Farida Jalal

Tina – Rani Mukherjee

Nana – Anupam Kher

.:: How it begins…::.

Straight after the title, we are shown a row of events. They all lead up to one major scene. Tina lying on a hospital bed and guess what she has just given birth to a baby girl. So that is meant to be a happy scene. Wrong. She requests that the girl is called Anjali and Rahul seems shocked and then she gives some instructions to Rahul. Unfortunately, Tina passes away due to internal bleeding after birth. This scene is very dramatic and emotional. You see yourself in Rahul’s position alone without his love.

.:: So eight years later… ::.

The day before Anjali Jr.’s birthday she is chosen to do a 60 second speech on the topic ‘Ma.’ Having lost her own she is lost for words as the whole of the audience stare at her. Rahul also nervous as he is upset that his daughter is upset so he gets up and tells the audience what ‘Ma’ is. This is another emotional scene that portrays a girl without a mother. Anjali Jr.’s Dadi asks Rahul to marry again for the sake of his daughter. He blankly refuses as he fell in love once and married only once. The next day it’s little Anjali’s eighth birthday and she is begging for her special birthday present, the letter from her mother, Tina. Finally, she gets it and starts reading. Tina has told her a very big secret that involves Rahul and his best buddy.

.:: The Past Revealed… ::.

The film moves from the present to the past where Rahul and Anjali are the best of buddies in their college years at St. Xavier's College. Anjali is the biggest tomboy in the college, with her cut hair and sporty clothes. Each day she has a competition game with Rahul at basketball and always turns out as the winner.

On friendship day, the principle has asked Anjali to look after his daughter Tina who is new to London. Anjali agrees. Rahul is running after the college girls handing out friendship bracelets. Anjali asks him when he will stop and he simply replies by saying, ‘when I find the perfect girl.’ Anjali questions him how will he know and he answers, ‘jab kuch kuch hota hai.’ Rahul bumps into Tina unaware that she is the daughter of the principle and tries to impress her by insulting him.

.:: Hidden Love…::.

In the English lesson, Rahul is asked by Ms Briganza, ‘What is Love?’ Foolishly aiming at Tina for not accepting his friendship bracelet, he replies, ‘Love is friendship…’ But the dart does not target Tina but instead leaves Anjali thinking that Rahul is in love with her. She too has feelings for him and when he practices his lines of love for Tina on her she is hurt. The song, ‘Tujhai Yaad Na Meri Ai,’ is nicely fitted here as it adds to the melancholy atmosphere. Anjali decides to leave and Rahul doesn’t really care but he does come on the train and say, ‘Go after your half-term exams.’ For Anjali her decision is final! She throws her dupatta to Tina and Rahul to remember her.

.:: Returning to the Present ::.

Anjali has turned into a beautiful, mature woman and is at her engagement ceremony to Aman. She isn’t that pleased but she is marrying because Aman loves her. The song, ‘Saajan Ghar Aaya,’ fits nicely into the film as it brings happiness and hope back into the film.

Back home, Anjali Jr. goes to Delhi for the Shraadh of her mum, Tina. She shows her grandparents the letters that her mum has left her and they hatch a plan to track Anjali down and the first person they go to is the dorm-mother. Bad news in revealed as she tells them that Anjali is getting married to Aman. Sweet, Anjali Jr., prays on a Jaanamaz to stop the wedding since the dorm-mother is Muslim and her prayers come true. This is a very cute scene as we are shown no matter which religion you are from, and no matter how you pray God will always listen to you.

.:: Will True Love Unite? ::.

Anjali Jr. sets off to summer camp hosted by Anjali. She talks to Anjali and asks her why her parent chose her name. Anjali replies by saying, ‘ They probably liked that name.’ She asks Anjali Jr. and she replied, ‘Probably my parents liked you.’Anjali is shocked and puzzled.

Anajali Jr. pretends to be sick and forces Rahul to come to Simla Summer Camp. Rahul agrees and is shocked to see Anjali since she has changed so much.

.:: The Questions ::.

Will Anjali Jr. ever have a mother to look after her, play with her and fight with her father? Who will Anjali choose Aman or Rahul? Where does Rahul stand? Will he forget Tina and marry Anjali? To find out just watch the movie!

The Music:

The film has blockbuster music present. The songs go with the mood of the film and are fitted in nicely instead of being forced in. The music is from the talented duo of Jatin-Lalit, who have delivered superhits songs of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayege. The songs include the catchy beat music like the song, ‘Koi Mil Gaye,’ and touching, ‘Tujhai Yaad Na Meri Ai.’

.::The bad points::.

The film runs rather slow at the college years but heats up when Tina appears.
