Being termed as the film that will finally pull Bollywood out of its box office misery, Rakesh Roshan's Krrish faces the huge responsibility of ending the Box Office drought and setting the cash registers rolling. A big movie always has high expectations associated with it and especially if it comes at a time when the HIT tag is a rarity, expectations become sky high. But if the movie stars one of the most bankable stars the industry has ever seen coupled with a rocking sound track, half the battle is won already. Add a super-aggressive publicity campaign to it, and one is dead sure of an earth-shattering initial at the BO.Krrish has generated quite a buzz. The producers have clearly invested a lot of money on the film’s promotion and the publicity has been exceptional. So does Krrish really live up to the Hype? Or is it just another case of All Hype, No Substance? For the answers, read on…

The film opens with scenic photography of the snow-capped mountains of Manali and the atmosphere is established of a super hero tale about to unfold. What follows is not entirely a super hero saga ateast in the first half .There are enough Bollywood masala like Comedy ,songs and romance to satisfy the typical Bollywood moviegoers. Rekha is the link between the sequel and prequel KMG.

Krishna (Hrithik Roshan) is Rohit Mehra's (Hrithik Roshan of 'Koi... Mil Gaya') son. Krishna has inherited his father's magical powers. His parents are dead and he's brought up by his grandmother played by Rekha. When she realizes that he too has special powers like his father, she takes him away to the mountains. There he grows up like a free spirit.

One day Priya (Priyanka Chopra) comes with a group of guys and girls on an adventure camp. He is smitten by her and heads to Singapore when she asks him to. Of course, for her he's someone she can use as the USP of the TV channel that she's working for.

Little does Krrish realize that he's going to stumble upon a strange truth in Singapore. He comes across Dr. Siddhant Arya (Naseeruddin Shah), a cruel scientist, who is responsible for his father's death.

Though the story is not path breaking, it is the film’s treatment that makes an instant impact. Rakesh Roshan chosen the right subject and his effort is impressive to say the least. But he ought to have paid more attention to the script as the film drags half way through. He should have made the script more interesting. Though there is nothing overly wrong with the screenplay, it tends to get too predictable at times. One or two twists would have surely taken the film to new highs. Having said that, the overall direction is praise-worthy.HE has handled the emotional scenes with utmost sensitivity and shows a flare for light-hearted sequences as well.

Krrish is definitely the most polished product to have come from Bollywood ever. The flick is rich on production values and features a highly skilled crew of technicians associated with it. Krrish can easily be termed as one of the best-shot films of the past decade.

Each and every frame has been canned with care and Cinematographer work should fetch him a nomination or two at next year’s awards. Sets, though not used a lot, are refreshingly nice and colorful. Music gels well with the mood of the film.

The pace of the narrative drops in first half because of the love story in a super hero movie syndrome. There is often an assumption on the part of all directors that they must add a love story dimension in what is essentially a story about super hero. Priyanka’s scenes distract the film from its main focus.

Hrithik is extremely likeable. From a witty and fun-loving young man in the first half to a devastated son in the second,he packs a punch! Having watched him in Krrish, I feel that no one else would have suited the role more than apna Hrithik. Though a few people might argue that he went a bit overboard in the second half, but hey, isn’t this the demand of role?

Priyanka is just about ok. Though her is an important character, her performance suffers mainly due to an ill-sketched character. But one must say that she shares an amazing on-screen chemistry with Hrithik. Whatever scenes the two have together, they have made complete use of them and one would like to see more of them together in the future.

For all its faults, “Krrish” is an entertaining film. Gripping action scenes and effective dialogues are the main strengths. If you want to go and see a decent Bollywood super hero film, then watch “Krrish”. I liked it more than other recent films in the same mould ala Spiderman ,Super man!
