Happy 100th birthday Kraft Foods Inc. To celebrate I thought I would write a review, about one of my favourite cheeses.

In Canada, and the USA, the TV ads always show an angle on a cloud, eating Philadelphia Cream Cheese.

The theme is based around ''taste a little bit of heaven.''

The Packaging:

You can buy the cheese in a bar or in a cup. The bar is wrapped in silver foil, and the cup is plastic on the bottom, and has a silver foil top. On both there is a white oval the says Philadelphia, in a blue colour. Below that in a red colour is the flavour of the cheese. Above the oval there is a red oval, (in red), that has Kraft printed in blue.

The Flavours:

There is the original, (that tastes creamy), sweet, (all types of fruits and berries), and the savoury, (for example, dill pickle and onion).

I always buy the 500 g, cup and pay about $2.00 CAD. I like the original one the best. I like to put it on a toasted bagel, and add my own jam. I use the dill pickle and onion flavoured one to make a quick dip. The nicest thing about using Philadelphia Cream Cheese, is that it is fat free.

The Cheese, (I'm using the original lite as an example):

When you open the cup or the bar, there is no smell. The taste is mild, like cottage cheese. The cheese is so soft, you could pick out a handful, and smear it on your face. That's because the texture is so creamy. I would do that, of course, I'd rather eat it!

Where Do I Buy It:

In Canada Phillie is sold in large Markets, corner Grocery Stores, Walmart, Cosco, and the Drugs Stores that sell food.

Nutritional Value, and Ingredients:

3g carbs per 2 tbsp, 150 mg sodium, 4g protein, about 30 calories.

Kraft Products:

Philadelphia Cream Cheese, and other Kraftes products are sold in North America, Europe and many countires in Asia.

A Recipe, (not mine, but one I use), Philadelphia Cheese Cake:

Prepare time: 20 minutes.

Chill : 4 hours.

Makes 8 to 10 servings.

250g of Kellogg’s cracker crumbs.

125g Butter, melted.

¼ (quarter) cup cold water.

500g KRAFT Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened.

2/3 (two-thirds) cup Caster Sugar.

300ml Thickened Cream, whipped.

  1. Lightly grease and line base of 20cm springform, (a cake pan with a removable base), pan with foil.

  2. Put the crumbs into medium bowl add melted butter and mix well. Press mixture into prepared pan to cover base and side of pan. Refrigerate until ready to use.

  3. Beat cream cheese and sugar in a large bowl with electric mixer until smooth. Spoon the filling into prepared base. Cover and refrigerate for 4 hours or until firm.

My Conclusion:

I would rather eat Philadelphia Cream Cheese, on toast or a bagel, instead using butter or margin.

If you haven't tried it yet I highly recommend it to you.
