Kovalam beach is one of the most popular beaches in India. Since this beach is situated just 13 km from Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala, travelling to this location is very easy.

Kovalam basically consists 3 separate beaches. Lighthouse Beach is the largest and most popular beach. It is called so because it has a 30 meter high lighthouse. If you don’t like the crowds too much, visit Samudra Beach, where there are not many tourists and you can also see the local fisherman. The third beach is Hawa beach. If you are one to sit and relax, plenty of lounge chairs and seaside restaurants are there where you can kick back and relax.

The sunrise and sunset views of the sea are spectacular and a major crowd puller. There are many hotels located close to the beaches and a few of them are also Govt run. They offer great views and are priced reasonably. The local cuisine is fantastic and you must try the Fried Fish which will leave you craving for more.

The ideal times for visiting Kovalam is from September to March. Mind you, by Mid-January, Kerala starts becoming hot and it is not good for you to be out in the sun from 10-11 Am to about 4Pm in the evening since the UV index is high and the temperature ranges from 28 to 35 degree C.If you are visiting kerala for Ayurvedic Therapy etc, you should probably visit from August to September, during the monsoon season, when the temperature is a loot cooler.

If you have plans to come down south to Kerala, make sure that you don’t skip Kovalam beach.
