I wanted to apply for a credit card and it seems no bank is interested in giving out one. I called up myself (since I have "Do Not Distrub" on my phone) Kotak and HSBC separately to apply for a Credit Card. They refused upfront and told me that they cannot issue me a credit card.
Same problem with DB who at least cordially told me that it was their policy to not issue credit cards to people who don't have one already. HSBC did not event bother to do that. They said we cannot disclose why we cannot issue you a card. Yeah right.
News is that if you don't have a credit card alreay, they won't issue you from their bank. Wow - so much so when the banks are chasing the customers black and blue to take a credit card from them otherwise. And this is when my salary is more than a lakh a month and I own a house and a car in my own name. Did not feel the need of a credit card until now but want one for myself.
My question is - if no bank will ever issue me a card in the first place, how can I get another one. It is a chicken and egg problem. To hell with your credit cards. I can manage without one like I have in the past.
