KONARK is definitely a place for all orissan & indian people to be proud about.infact the temple proper is no more there and what we see is only the entrance (mukhasala-in oriya). but the grandeure of the remnants are so stunning that one can only imagine what would have been the main temple like.it is one of the world heritage site.and also most extensively stone carved temple in india.

the temple(or mukhasala) has been sealed by sand to keep it from crumbling(as claimed) by the british.legend says that it had a replica of the sun hanging in mid-air by two magnets(personally I don't beleive this) and the same magnets caused ship passing by the sea to get off their course and crash at the temple.

it forms a tringle with PURI jagannath temple and bhubaneswar.one can land in bhubaneswar and visit konark & puri same day. conveyance-by taxi from bhubaneswar or public busses. round about journey will be 180km from bhubanesawar(including puri)

konark is especially famous for the erotic sculptures.several reasons are cited for this kind of sculptures in temple. it took 12 years for 1200 craftsmen to build the temple and all the while they were away from their home. so keep their mind struck to work this kind of artrangement was made by the king. others say that this is one of the way to test the mind of a beleiver when he/she visits the temple.

any way this definitely is a good place to visit.
