Why was KOI AAP SAmade? What was the motive? For Commercial purpose?or For critical acclaim[ha ha]?No answers are forthcoming .

Ekta Kapoor returns with her fourth film after kuch To Hain,Krishna Cottage and kya cool Hain Hum. All these films were ordinary product with nothing to rave or rant about. One would expect her fourth film to be a notch above ordinary-however KOI AAP SA turns out to be her most disappointing film till date.

What could've been a 2 hour touching and absorbing tale turns into something unecessarily long. While the first half is crackling with humourous situations and witty dialogues laced with humour the second half drags on and fails to keep the viewer entertained on any level.

To give Director Partho Mishra a credit he has made a clean film which doesn't rely on any toilet humour or sex jokes [like that terrible excuse for a movie called Kyaa Kool Hain Hum].Hence the two stars!

PLOT

The film begins in a Kuch Kuch Hota Hain mode with a football match between two groups of same college [ Aftab being the lead player of one of the team] .Natasha is his best friend .They have grown up sharing same tiffin and school .

Actual drama takes place when Aftab falls in love with another girl [Dipnita Sharma] .He uses love tips from Natasha to woo her .As expected ,both[AS/DS] fall in love and sing a song far away in hills of Australia.

Things take a turn when Natasha is engaged to NRI Himanshu Mallik from America .Aftab is not happy with this engagement because somewhere down the line he is in love with Natasha. But Destiny has something in store for Natashaa...

She is raped by a person [who is a friend of Himanshu] during a college program .To make matter worse ,the rapist dies in a car accident after few hours leaving Natassha cold and numb! The best friends decide to keep the incident a secret. But trouble occurs when Natasha suffers from car accident [again!] and she is declared a pregnant!Natasha has to bear the humiliation of society including her parents and Fiance Himanshu Mallik[yawn!].

After some dragging rona-dhona sequence ,Aftab is ready to bear the responsibility of a father of a child of Natasha[yuck!]!But there is a twist in the tale! Himanshu re-appears on the scene and is ready to accept Natasha[worse!].

The worst part of the whole film is climax! Though Natasha is 7 month pregnant ,she is in a mood to watch a football match! The torture finally ends in a hospital where Natasha delivers a baby and declares Aftab as a father of new born baby!!

In terms of a story Partho Mishra has written refreshing story that shows a lot of promise in the first half.

Though predictable ,first half is simply amazing. The comic scenes in the first half between Aftab and Natasha and also the ones between Aftab/Natasha/Deepnita have been handled brilliantly and make for some of the best scenes in the movie......

There are many instances in the first half which are quite entertaining...like....

The sequence where Aftab-Natasha are watching K3G in a cinema Hall!

Similarly the entire enagement sequence of Natasha-Himanshu which brings the house down!

The date between Deepnita-Aftab is a fun to watch .

Portions depicting college are straight out of the life.

But its the intermission point that gives extra zing to the film! The race that ensues between the rapist and Aftaab keeps you on tenterhook. One can't help but ask for a more...!

Alas!KAS falls to all time low in this half!Though director Mishra has even opted for the pre-marital motherhood ala SALAAM NAMASTE and KYA KEHNA but what takes away the sheen from KOI..AAP SA is its screenplay which fails to hold the viewers interest alive in this half.

He fails to keep the pace moving and the gags don't seem to have any punch. Infact the story stagnates the moment Natassha comes to know about her pregnancy!

Another drawback is that whole film seems like an extension – both in style and content—to the serial Ekta Kapoor has been making so far.

Musically the film is good although weak compared to Ekta Kapoors previous ventures. The title track is pick of the lot [in the very beginning] and ''Adaat Ho chuki'' is catchy and sensual.

The other songs are hummable but the picturisations lack imagination and slow the movie down. One of the songs could also have been done with a chop.

Technically the film is slick and glossy! The beautiful locations of Melbourne have been perfectly captured on celluloid and there is a certain amount of freshness and zestness that is translates well on screen. choregraphy too is good-specially in Adaat Ho Chuki. The editing could've been slicker.

Aftab Shivdasani is terrific! He has charm, charisma and screen presence. He is totally natural when it comes to comedy-something . His ''boy next door'' looks help him in portraying his character with an amazing ease. His expressions are out of this world especially in the hospital sequence[climax]!

Natasshagives a totally natural performance that is bound to make the viewer fall in love with her. She has brilliant charishma and is a total cutie. Her delivery is efficient and she handles both comic and emotional scenes with aplomb. Her delivery when she rejects Himanshu Mallik deserves a round of applause! I am big fan of her from Kabhie Sautan Kabhie Saheli [a Star Plus serial ] days and its nice to see someone I adore going from strength to strength with each and every release[Kuch To Hain ,Yeh Dil ,Krishna Cottage,Siilsiilay] .All she needs is a solo hit!

The chemistry between Aftab and Natashaa is another high point of the film and also the dialogues they shared which gives the viewer the feeling '' this could be my love story''-both are totally bubbly and natural.

One major highlight is the conversation between Aftab and Natasha in the first half which goes something like this -“Mein tumse itna pyar karti hoon jitna Saddham Hussain America se aur Vivek Salman se karta hain!'.

Dipnita Sharma is OK in her role. She comes across very wooden at times although she looks good on screen. Himanshu Mallik who is a B-Movie icon of sorts is mediocre. He looks like a absolute downright ugly with a 80's hairdo, has absolutely no screen presence, mouthes his dialogues like a robot and wears one facial expressions on screen. He is too fat!

The rest of the cast is passable with usual coterie of terrible-looking actors from Balaji Soaps.God knows their name!

All up KOI..AAP SA is one to avoid.Waste of time and money!
