KWK was being promoted as a cool, hip, cutting edge talk show….really? What it is about? It’s about celebrities, what they eat for breakfast, which side of bed they sleep on and what turns them on/off blah blah….who cares??? Why should anyone be interested in any of this drivel, as if we don’t read about these overexposed stars and their shenanigans in Filmfare and Stardust and countless other glossies. What’s really surprising is that Star World picked this show up when they already had that saccharine sweet, plastic-faced Simi Garewal on Rendezvous doing exactly the same thing, chatting up celebrities and pampering their over-inflated egos.

I watched KWK just out of sheer curiosity, to see if it was really going to be as different and daring! Nonsense, it was the same old same old. I watched about 4 episodes. The first one, of course had SRK and Kajol, Karan’s best buds. He basically just sat there and worshipped them while SRK and Kajol gabbed away. It was sickening to watch.

The second episode was probably the best of the lot. It had Saif and Preity—they were both totally hilarious and didn’t care about being politically correct, which was such a refreshing change from the goody-two-shoes boring celebs Karan had on.

The third episode with Rani and Kareena showed some spunk basically because Karan ribbed Kareena apparently in a good humored way! Hardly. He drove the girl to tears by constantly rubbing it in that she rejected his movie and gloating gleefully that the film made Preity the number one actress. What a pompous jackass! To actually invite someone on your talk show and humiliate them just for revenge is so juvenile and asinine. Grow up Karan. And he treated Rani with kid gloves just coz she is part of the coterie and happens to be friends with SRK. His love for SRK is just way too transparent and weird! The man worships the ground SRK walks on!

The fourth episode featured Ms.World Aishwarya Rai, whose words of wisdom I failed to understand. I called up my friends and they drew a blank too. Apparently lesser mortals couldn’t fathom the depths of little Ms. Perfect’s intellect. Actually even Karan couldn’t. He just kept staring blankly at her and tried hard to stop himself from yawning as she went on circuitously about the Cannes controversy. And she dodged the usual darts (not bullets) with the same inane answers or simply refused to answer! The only redeeming moment in the yawn fest was when Karan asked Sanjay Bhansali, the other guest on the show, about who he thought was the most overrated actor in Bollywood was. With a straight face, Sanjay said Vivek Oberoi, Ash’s boyfriend. Ms. Ice Princess’s face fell for a moment, but the great actress that she is she quickly composed herself and smiled on as if she didn’t know who Vivek was or the comment didn’t bother her. That was precious!

After these four sleep-inducing, glucose-dripping episodes, I decided to stop watching. It's not very good for a borderline diabetic like myself!! Thank heavens for that decision. I couldn't help watching the promos for some of the forthcoming episodes though. Guests included Sunny and Bobby Deol (YAWN more!), Abhishek and Amitabh Bacchan (my sis told me that Abhi was hilarious although cagey, while the Big B was his usual reclusive self), Gauri Khan and Suzanne Roshan with special appearances from (no prizes for guessing) SRK and Hrithik! Who are Gauri and Suzanne? And why do they deserve to be on a chat show? Fardeen Khan and Zayed Khan (LOL). One is a failed actor and the other has one semi hit to his credit, that too because it had SRK (him again!) in it. I have nothing against SRK, he is a highly successful and energetic actor, of late become very campy too, but this overexposure is causing me to hate him. He is everywhere!

One of my friends did say that the episode with Shobha De and Shabana Azmi was interesting all thanks to De’s candidness and catty panache. Apparently she didn’t mince words and her saucy attitude vis-a-vis Ms. Azmi’s prim n proper diplomacy made for an interesting interview. But frankly my dear, at that point I didn’t care a damn, because I don’t like Karan’s movies in the first place, so there was no question of ever missing his tacky talk show!
