Here I am. Yes this indeed is me. After a long..long hiatus I am back, with a new avatar too. Back again to Mouthshut.com to provide you with some informed opinions, to kill some time but more importantly to familiarize myself with that dammn keyboard again and to get my typing speed back. Darn..why do I always have to speak the truth?

All right but all of you apparently came in here for some Koffee with Karan, so lets take it right from the top, shall we. Snazzy promos to create the right buzz about the show, terrific conceptualization, tapping a niche audience and a plush set design. Looks like this show had all the ingredients of success pat down. So did it turn out to be a mega hit? Well..not in my book at least.

For starters I have to admit that I've watched only two episodes of KWK, the first one with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol and the second one with The Bacchans. But no sweat coz two episodes are more than enough to form an opinion about this talk show if you wanna call it that. Now when you think of Karan Johar you think of a well read, articulate and politically correct man. Someone who is a great speaker and would still probably win a debate in an inter school competition.

He claims that he has lost all the puppy fat that he once had and you can see that he aint lying either. So with all that being said, we have someone who can speak, carry himself well and is quite presentable too. But does he make the cut as television talk show host. Not quite, taking into consideration what I have seen from him so far and let me tell you it's not likely to change either. The reason being it's not about the potential but it's about the personality.

Perhaps Karan is just is a little too simple, sophisticated and sensible to be entertaining. As a TV show host you gotta have charisma and you have to be willing to poke around a few uncomfortable areas with your guests to make the audience sit up and take notice. I know it may not sound right but that is what the audience wants. That is how we all are. People like you and me.

Whatever said, we wouldn't like to sit around watching friendly banter between a bunch of people because its boring, its mundane and most importantly its not entertaining. That's the kEy word there. But to give the lad his fair due, Karan is trying in his own inimitable honest and sincere way. My only concern is that the interest in the show may not last very long once the novelty wears off and by the time Karan familiarizes himself with the tricks of the trade, it may be a tad too late.

Another worry for the show is that it has not been able to find a theme that it can strongly associate itself with. It is neither high on emotions nor on comedy. Oprah Winfrey and Simmy Garewal make people cry, Jeena Isika Naam Hai is a nostalgic trip down memory lane while Movers and Shakers was light hearted and used to make people laugh. Koffee with Karan is an inappropriate mix of everything, which is the biggest let down.

Die hard fans of Vir Sanghvi (The Cover Story) tune in every week irrespective of who the guests are. People may tune in to Koffee with Karan too, but it will be more to do with the weekly guests than with the host. The show will still do all right as long as they keep bringing out the mega stars, but once that mine starts to run dry things might get a little rocky. Till then let Karan enjoy his stint as a talk show host.

To put it plainly the Coffee has been brewing for quite some time but its just a little cold to spark any interest. And although I like sipping on Cold Coffee as much as the next guy, I think I will make an exception in this case.
