Pass me some glycerine plzz!. Review on Kkusum

Kkusum..

For those who have seen or heard of this serial, I completely understand if you want to skip this review!

For those lucky people who have not seen or heard of Kkusum, don’t worry, I shall give you gyan!

This is a soap that is aired on Sony from Mon-Fri at 9:00pm.

Well, Kkusum is supposed to be the story of a strong , courteous,lovable, kind (add all adjectives) woman. For all those guys who are looking out for the “perfect” woman in life, watch Kkusum and u will realize how boring she can be.

Part 1

Kkusum, a middle class girl gets married to a rich guy called Abhay who is in love with another girl. Abhay thro’out the serial switches between being a good guy then a bad guy and then a good guy and again a bad guy and so on..Confused? don’t bother..i think even the director was confused..so itz ok.So the major part of this serial shows how she deals with her husband’s affair.Finally she gets a divorce from him.

No,no U don’t have to watch this serial every day to keep track of the story..u just have to see this serial mebbe once in 3 months..u certainly would’nt have missed much..

Part 2

Enters the handsome Mr.Siddharth with his silver-rimmed specs.(Guys really look cool and sophisticated with silver or gold-rimmed specs, don’t they?)So I started watching this serial for him for a few days..but then this soap is too boring to handle, even for him. Agreed he is a little stony-faced and sometimes looks too serious but he is good-looking. Yeah, back to the story..well Kkusum marries Siddharth and then they both are shown as the ultimate couple. Ektaa Kapoor’s serial and happiness? No, no not for long...

Enters kkusum’s ex who btw is a good guy now and seeds of misunderstanding is sown by Siddharth’s 2 moms(I have’nt a clue how he has 2 moms!must have missed those parts in the 3 month gap) Siddharth is made to believe that Kkusum is cheating on him. After threats of divorce and lots of rhona-dhona, Siddharth understands that his “perfect” Kkusum is not at fault and asks for forgiveness. But then, he suddenly meets with an accident and dies. Not to worry, this is an Ektaa Kapoor serial remember? It wont take long for Siddharth to come back from his grave, hale and hearty only suffering from a strong bout of amnesia. Otherwise, there would certainly be a Humshakal lurking somewhere in the background!

Features of Kkusum (if u want to call them features that is..)

Mothers:

There are four mothers in the serial.

# Aai- Kkusum’s mom

# Mummyji-Kkusum’s ex’s mom who might get “ the perfect saas” award!

# Siddharth’s 2 moms.

Whenever the first 2 mothers come on screen, Beware! Either they are going to break into a lecture about Pyaar, parivaar, ghar, Shakthi, aatma-sammaan etc or they are going to cry!

Siddharth’s 2 moms are really funny. They are supposed to be the scheming, villainous ladies whose sole aim in life is to cause a rift between the couple. One mom sports an absolutely funny hairstyle and its fun to watch her hair dangle whenever she shakes her head. The other mom seriously needs to read reviews on “how to apply makeup”. She would certainly be qualified to have a part in RGV’s “Bhoot”.

James Bond Entries and Bollywood-shtyle Tunes:

Whenever Kkusum is about to take on her adversaries, she is seen opening the door with a wave and walking from one end to the other with the determined “Jhaansi ki Raani” expression. Added to that, there is the background score to match the occasion. Typical hindi film Ishtyle!

And ofcourse the flashbacks! You can always find the couple (whenever they are not fighting) saying mushy-mushy things to each other..and on comes the flashback with their previous scenes together and a song which ends in “haan Kkusum..”!If you still ar’ent bored, then you are one patient person.

Poor Men!

Men are completely ignored in this serial. All the roles are for the women. There are only 2 men who are given importance. One is the weirdo character –Abhay and the other one Siddharth has just been killed. So itz a woman’s world out there. But then, even the hard-core feminist has nothing to be proud of here…such is the story!

The Extras!

The story that I gave you above is only a very very rough idea.Trust me, u don’t want to hear more!I’m surprised u are still reading this review..Anyway there are lots of other characters -the behens, the cousins, chaachis and many many more .Not worth mentioning!

Glycerine, glycerine and more glycerine.

Kkusum is supposed to be a strong character who faces all the challenges of life.But the whole essence of the character is lost coz you mostly find her whining and wailing. In every episode there would be somebody crying! Either it would be Kkusum, one of the mothers, Siddharth, Abhay or any of the ‘extras’.Uugghhhh!

I watch this serial when I’m in an absolutely crazy and whacko mood to have a few laughs. As far as our movies and serials are concerned, I strongly feel that the most humorous situations arise at the most dramatic situations when our actors and actresses are seriously trying to emote with their contorted expressions.. having not a slightest clue how much laughter they may be evoking.

But then, if u’ve had a long and exhausting day, then it is in u’r best interests to keep away from this “family drama” coz u may not the see the humour in it and the effect may be jarring!

I don’t know why I wasted u’r time and mine with this review..I could have just described this serial in one word-BORING!
