Kites - the name suggests flight, height, speed, a mind of its own, yet controlled by its string, the very string can make or break the life of the kite. Watched a paid preview (for the first time ever of any film) of kites without any expectations. Came back not dissatisfied. Worth a dekho. Barbara mori reminded me of kimi katkar from some angles. Hrithik as usual gets to showcase his dancing skills, his toned body and his acting. The idea germ is good, that kites though fly high they are controlled by the person who holds its string, and when it is cut, a kite's life literally is in shreds....
The very premise on which the film kicks off is flawed. We do not understand this concept of marrying for a green card. Las vegas is famous for its overnight weddings and divorces. A viewer not wellversed with the geography of usa will not understand that the story takes place in 2 states of the sw - nevada and new mexico, the latter shares a boundary with mexico and has seen illegal migration by the hordes. How can we not appreciate it when we have people piling in from all sides into our country. Have we heard of anyone marrying 11 times so that the illegal migrants may get a permanent ration card, its easy to grease palms and get our work done here. And yes, like jamaal says in the movie, money can and does buy happiness, so how can j fall for his 11th biwi, when he sees her being engaged to someone else. That too after seeing her in a bikini underwater. And why does she have two names???
Yes, hrithik and barbara share an electrifying chemistry and they literally scorch the screen. But that's about it. Kangana ranaut is an absolute non-starter. But the actors playing tony and ali (h's friend) looked so similar that i could distinguish them only from the violence emanating from one as against the friendly tone of the other.
Worth one dekho, i wonder if in the indian setting the film would have become an unpalatable mixture of refugee and ek duje ke liye
