This is a line that will stay with me a long time and perhaps, forever. This, Hassan tells Amir and forms the setting for the novel, The Kiterunner by Khaled Hosseini.
Never have I thought of a book as 'beautiful' , but this one is just that. The story is so pure and put in words so simple that I could not help but just marvel at the beauty of this book.
Written in the first person, this work of fiction feels like it is an autobiographical narration as the author exposes the character of Amir to us with ruthless honesty that instantaneously grips our Human side and the cowardice within us as well.
The plot is set and sometimes you expect what is to happen, but when it does, it ends simply, in that one beautiful line that makes you cry for what has happened and smile at its beauty and purity of emotion at the same time.
It feels like the author has penned straight from the heart, not a single word manipulated to cash in or tug our heart-strings. This is literary beauty at its purest!
I would never recommend a book so strongly ever. All I feel is that, if a person or non-reader has to read just one book in a lifetime, this should be it.
To quote from the book,
"There are many children in Afghanistan,
but very little childhood..."
But, this tale of childhood so enchantingly beautiful and frighteningly heart-breaking that we can only wish to be in that fairytale and pray not be in that nightmare ever, at the same time.
To repeat myself because I have no other word or expression to describe it, HAUNTING BEAUTIFUL!
