Hey, Kaypo Chhe!!!

I am feeling fortunate and also ill-fated because of two main grounds. One is that it’s me who will write firstly on MouthShut.com about one of the most profoundly celebrated and frolicked fiesta, which is not concerned about any religion at all. Secondly, it is hapless because nobody is aware of the festival that is world-pronounced and enjoyable for everybody.

Makarsankranti, alias Uttarayan or kite-flying day comes every time in the month of January. Mostly it is high-flying in the state of Gujarat; however, nowadays, it is also popular in Kerala during Onam, and also at several parts of the world just for sake of gratification and pleasure.

My all knowledge and a long saga experienced tell only things about Gujarat, but precisely and also profligately. Every 14th of January is rejoiced as the festivity of Makarsankranti. It is named because according to the Indian astrology, the sun metamorphoses its motion into Makar Nakshtra; consequently, it is called Makarsankranti. Uttrayan is also related word to Hindi in which Uttar means the north and in metaphorical Sanskrit language Uttar means the progress and amelioration. Kites go up in the sky at a very high altitude and it is make-believed that the life and standard will also enhance like the kites. That was all about pro-Indian cultural and traditional introductory scenario.

Looking at the present style of enjoying the two days of the festival is really interesting and phenomenal. From adolescence to adulthood, childish to elderly, all kinds of people revel in harmony and social gregariousness. Teenagers and youngsters climb on the roofs and terraces early in the morning approximately prior to six. They start flying kites. Most of the time in the morning on 14th it is pretty windy, so flying kites is very easy. Many boys do that on a platter. Women in home, cook good food and snacks like Chikki (consist of peanuts and also sesames), laddoo of popped rice, special sweet cuisine like khir (made out of millet) and other whole lot of foodstuffs. Furthermore, sugarcane, several Indian berries etc symbolize the festival's omnipresence and omnipotence.

Heretofore, in the colonial Gujarat, people used to celebrate the festival on the public grounds of the kingdom. Special terrains were provided to people in order to make the festival stupendously attracting. After the boisterous atmosphere of shouting and cheering when people end the flying, a mutual dinner was offered to everybody of the town or the city, whatever people belonged to from the kingdom or the township.

Since the morning, the kite-flying lasts till the later night. One would think after sunset, how a person could fly kites not being able to see through the sky perfectly. That is true, but at night after dining, again youngsters go up again to fly lanterns. During the day the sky is overwhelmingly colored by discrepant kites of several kinds, styles, and archetypes. At the night the golden, silver, red, green and several fluorescent colored lanterns entice one who just glanced at the sky for momentarily. The whole sky is just sedulously inviting new kites and the efforts of assiduous and fanatical flyers. On the next day, 15th of January so called Vasi-Uttarayan (stale kite-flying day, because of the next day). All governmental and private enterprises, colleges and schools, small and big businesses, mostly all kiosks and lorries are closed on that day. However, on the next day only colleges and schools are closed just for sake of a little more vacation from daily work and indulging more the events. The so-called Vasi-Uttarayan is also as busy as the previous days.

This was a slightly introducing review about a fantastic celebration that transpires in every mid-January in Gujarat. I am no positively sure that it is celebrated quietly the same way in Kerala on Onum, but have heard of it. I wondered why no one has written on the subject of Makarsankranti, and then figured that no body mainly is from Gujarat who is a regular and active member of MouthShut.com. Most members are from Mumbai, South-Central India and foreign countries. Therefore, there won’t be anybody standing up to express about due to not having any structural experience. I have taken the initiative and hope that the matter will be penned frequently provided that any one has a bit of knowledge about it and willing to indite.

I also have taken the issue as a festival rather than any sport activity. Today is 14th of January in the USA, so my Indian and Pro-Gujju soul and spirit makes me determined to write at least a page or two about the great days that I spent all my childhood and teenage. I, nevertheless, attempted to find out id MouthShut.com had any faculty of festivals related to it, but could not find it somehow. It’s either my fault that I was unable to search a special place for the review of mine, or MouthShut’s fault that it does not provide an opportunity for the completion.
