The first time I saw this commercial I thought it was funny, yet it left a bad taste in my mouth. And after that this commercial makes me sad.

The commercial is like this.

The two ways of munching kitkat are given.First of all you have the Hollywood style where you have the cowboy coming into a bar and eating kitkat more like smoking a cigar.

And then you have the bollywood version where you have this rajnikanth look-alike entering a bar where the bartender is a so called typical south Indian woman- a dark, fat woman with a huge bindi and also flowers in her hair.

Now you have the desi version eating kitkat after making a sound like 'pishku' and the kitkat landing up in his mouth. He is applauded by a group of mundu-clad onlookers.

The final one-liner:''Tum kaise khawogeda ?Like this(The Hollywood style) or thata!(The Bollywood style)''

Why in the huge world of bollywood from Dev Anand to Shah Rukh Khan, did they bring Rajnikanth into the picture?Yes,Rajnikanth has acted in a few hindi movies, but he is not the typical bollywood hero.So giving it the title bollywood style n bringing Rajni is not that correct.

Secondly when they show the Hollywood style and then contrast it with the so-called bollywood style, any normal watcher would feel that the former is stylish and the latter ridiculous.

Thirdly the thing that saddened me most was the way the south Indians are depicted. Are they mundu-clad buffoons? The archetypal south Indian image has been reiterated in this commercial as well.Sadly, the same image would be used again and again wherever something south Indian comes up.Obviously, this image is not something to be proud of.Be it movies, commercials or serials, the south Indian way of speaking and dressing are parodied to evoke mirth and ridicule.

When would this end?Aren't such things projecting a false picture of South Indians?Anybody who has watched even a bit of south Indian movies or television would agree that these people too lead a normal life.

Yes,there are so many south Indian men wearing mundus and women who wear flowers in their hair. But this is nothing to be ashamed of. It perfectly suits the climatic conditions and way of life.

And what is wrong with speaking hindi or English with a south Indian accent?

Anybody who learns an alien tongue will have the influence of his/her mother - tongue in his/her speech .

But aren't there so many who wear modern clothes and speak English without a south Indian accent? Why aren't these people ever represented?

For those who think I am exaggerating, there is the silk n shine ad.Here u have a kind of modern Thumbelina enacted. You have the beautiful maiden and the cruel frog with an unmistakable south-indian accent.

Thus, it continues???..

May be I am over-reacting, but if I don't react now, will there be an end to this?
