Look who made the chapattis!

I tried these heat n ready to eat chapattis lately when I was alone at home for a while. I had had an arrangement with a local tiffin supplier. The food she sent was good, nice daal, good vegetables, great salads, but the superlatives stopped at the chapattis. The chapattis she sent were….let it be left at calling them non-chapattis.

In those days during my sojourns to the local grocery store, I came across this attractively packaged product Annapurna Chapattis.

In a pack of five, each chapatti was already cooked/ baked (Pardon the indecisiveness. I make only fleeting cameo appearances in the kitchen). All you have to do is heat them on a pre-heated tawa, turn it over now n then. And before you say “Roti” its done. In a jiffy! I finally can make chapatti, and perfectly round at that. Now is that convenient or is that convenient! Anyone who has seen the procedural intricacies of making a chapatti would understand the tedium involved. Not for those short on patience or low on deftness n dexterity.

Easy to Make (In fact they are already made)

Annapurna Chapattis are easy to make, they are ready in a matter of less than 10 seconds and have a nice soft fluffy consistency. Compare this to buying wheat, getting it milled, making dough, flattening the dough, then heat, n oil, powder, etc. All this can be a thing of the past thanks to Annapurna Ready to eat chapattis. They are compatible for microwave use too. No need to add oil to the tawa or on the microwave while preparing these.

Ahem…the taste

These chapattis taste damn good. All those finicky fuss-pots who say, “But it still doesn’t taste like home made chapattis”, or “No one can make it as good as my mom/ my granny/ myself” can go fly a kite.

Shelf life

Four days! This further boosted my confidence in the product, a low shelf life is an indicator that the packed food is not stuffed with more preservative than it should be. These are to be consumed within four days of date of packaging, and an opened pack must be kept in an airtight container or refrigerated. And by the way, the atta is labeled as ‘fortified atta’, i.e. they got some of those good vitamins and minerals stuffed in too

Who should eat this stuff?

A merciful boon to bachelors, students, working women, any woman sick of making chapattis the hard way, circumstantial bachelors, divorced men…wow the target audience here is endless.

By the way, prior to trying out Annapurna Chapattis, I also tried to make chapattis on my own, knead a consistent dough (failed there itself), flatten them to a round shape, heat, oil, powder… etc … and concluded this really requires tremendous degree of acquired expertise which I am not inclined to acheive.

Hold on a sec, here comes the clincher Annapurna Chapattis are priced at Rs. 9/- for 5 chapattis. So what are you waiting for, try them for tonight’s meal itself.

(MS asks if it is certified by the FDA. The pack says is vegetarian(green dot), and since the product is from HLL, I guess it should meet the necessary regulatory requirements.)
