First of all, I never had high regards for Aziz Mirza as a director, but just the fact that UTV ( Ronnie Screwvala for me ) was backing this project and Shahid Kapoor was in it, I decided to go ahead and see this one. Right after 20 mins into the movie I was feeling so sorry to see Shahid Kapoor in this sad film. I mean Aziz Mirza has made feel good movies in the past where in one could sit thru till the end, but in this case I couldn’t wait to see the end credits role.
The story of the movie is anybody’s guess after 15-20 mins in the movie. The screenplay of the movie seems have been developed on the sets as the shooting progressed. The scenes are so disconnected at places that I am not sure if it was the editing mess or the director simply forgot to shoot few things. Songs from Aziz Mirza movies always made it to the top charts. But, this time they simply don’t work, neither on screen nor on ipod. The fact that movie was shot in beautiful Canada, the least you would expect is beautiful frames and shots capturing the locals and scenic locations, but a complete zero for cinematography. If that wasn’t enough we had Juhi Chawla’s character, which was written so badly that you can’t wait to see her off the screen. Juhi Chawla is a good actor, but needs a strong director. And Aziz Mirza is definitely not the one.
Forget delivering a movie, he couldn’t deliver one great scene. Neither the love angle between Shahid and Vidya nor the frustration of the central character makes you feel for the characters. Vidya Balan finding out the truth abt her fiancé and the Boman Irani’s twist scene were the most horrible scenes of this sad story. Seriously, what was Aziz thinking ? I was struggling to make a Konnection with atleast one thing in the movie that would work for me. But, the movie fell flat for me in all departments’ story, screenplay, direction, cinematography, music, editing and acting. Vidya Balan seems to walk into every character she plays without letting out the Parineeta in her. Coming to Shahid kapoor, when you compare to his “Jab We Met” performance he is not even 10 % of that. Having said that, Shahid probably was the only reason that helps you sit thru this mess called Kismet Konnection.
The movie didn’t make any Konnection what so ever. Ronnie please make sure you stand by strong scripts in future.
