For those Indian readers baffled about Kirby Vacuums, Kirby makes incredibly expensive (over US $1200 new in the US, 2000 pounds or more in the UK) vacuums that are supposed to last a lifetime. They have only two or three models and the models don't change often (latest being the GIV or Generation Four).

They do last because every part is made of heavy gauge stainless steel and/or forged alloy steel. The bearings are well-sealed in the motor and it is a no-compromise, no-expense spared vacuum built like a tank that weighs a ton and performs flawlessly. European or Japanese vacuums are no competition for this appliance. My short experience of about a year made me a believer!

Newer UK vacs like DYSON are all the rage now -- but these are still made of plastic. You cannot beat metal for long-lasting durability. That's where the KIRBY really shines.

Typically KIRBY does not sell vacuums in Dept. stores. They are sold only through VACuum and SEWing (VAC & SEW) type stores (used) found in most urban areas in the United States. A New one is sold through salesmen only but I recommend buying a used one on ebay and refurbishing the things with readily available parts. Ebay link here for a few odd kirby's available.

Hope that clarifies a few things.
