I got my flyte, silver color in Feb 08. Everybody’s been raving about this bike and once u own it you know that it does live up to all the hype… The company recently reached their sales milestone of 10000 flytes on road and that in such short time span speaks for itself.
Styling and Design**.
Not radically different yet looks quite attractive. Based on SYM X’pro sold in over 60 countries? 2. Plastics seems to be of high quality, bcos they are imported from Taiwan? Even silencer heat shield is plastic?
Seat is soft and comfy and not hard like that of Activa.
Also its amazing though the flyte weighs more than Activa at 105 kg its feels surprisingly lightweight as if it were only 80-90 kgs. This probably is due to its plastic body, low center of gravity from fuel tank being under the floorboard. Whereas Activa feels much heavier than its actual weight. 5. Overall fit and finish is impressive.
Features, its loaded with features.
Front fuelling, really very convenient. No more getting off the seat, fumbling with fuel tank lid etc. Just turn the key to the left and that’s all that u need to do.and once u r done just push the spring-loaded feul cap back and it locks into place with a click.
Imported telescopic bike-like suspension, just what u needed for the indian roads.
4-in-1 anti-theft magnetic key. What this essentially means is.in addition to locking the scooter, u can even lock up the keyhole.
Impact resistant mirrors? even ordinary mirrors fold on impact…
Longest wheelbase at 1260 mm, helps in stability 130 mm dia brakes for instant stops.
Largest underseat storage of 22 L with illumination, Activa only 15 L with no light.
9 Ah battery for instant starts. Though did face some starting problems initially, which I found later was due to faulty battery installation(the mechanics at kinetic don’t seem to know anything other than changing the engine oil.)
3.5 inch zapper pattern tyres. The tyres are good don’t skid easily and helps in the event of sudden braking. my flyte did fish-tail on one occasion on slippery surface, yet never came close to losing control. One customization I would like to do on the flyte is fit them with the real Zapper tyres… which looks stylish and beefy, the no one would confuse it for a 50 cc bike…(costs rs 650 at the MRF showroom)
Mobile charging point, though never really used it, u need some kind of adapter specific to ur mobile.
Controls pollution with secondary air injection technology?
Also a 3-year warranty to boost ur confidence.
And all this at a price of 41, 700 on road… i'm sure u couldn’t have asked for more.
Comfort, you don’t have to compromise in this department either.
1. The seating posture is just right, no hint of back pain even after long rides
2. With the imported telescopic forks, bad roads shouldn’t be a bother anymore
3. Putting the flyte on center stand is a breeze.Don’t even think about it on the Activa, again amazing considering flyte is heaver than Activa.
Power and Performance, flyte’s got a super-smooth, super-silent 125 cc/8bhp engine from SYM of Taiwan…(make no mistake. this is no scooty pep)
1. 0-60, 12.5 sec
2. Top speed 84km/h
3. Excellent pick up and acceleration, but for the running-in, have maintained speeds below 50.
Handling.
Handling is one of the strong points of flyte, handles really well, good maneuverability, again comparing this to Activa, it has got a very rigid handling and thus affects ur back adversely over time.
Great for navigating the city traffic.
Fuel efficiency
Probably more than 40, not yet tested…
PS: Have used activa for 3 years before getting the flyte, and I personally feel Activa is no match for the all new, fully loaded flyte. So if u r planning on a twist-n-go mode of transportation, I feel u should do urself a favor and take a test ride of the Flyte…
