1972 was a great year in the Indian history. India outperformed itself in population growth compared to the previous year, a monster achievement. It marked 25 years of Independence and another 10 years for me to open my account of life in the God Bank of World (GBW). In another 2 years Tendulkar arrives and exactly 18 more left for the new millennium and exactly 72 years into the 20th century. Great year!! Isn’t it?

Well in few lines I just proved that 1972 was indeed a great year in the history. Kinetic engineering a measly company somewhere in Pune was manufacturing some spare parts which always remained as the spare parts, went into launching Luna as there effort to revolutionize something called as personalized transportation.

A kiddo clutches to the back of his mother, the mother has acquired the balance to ride the 2 wheeler automated machine very recently and hence takes the kiddo with her. The kiddo isn’t too impressed with the abilities of his mother to ride that vehicle but pillions’ any ways for the greed of the Melody the kiddo will receive in the end of the ride.

Kiddo becomes a 12 year old and get hold of this vehicle once and then rides it through out the colony and gets a feel of subsided Dhoom bike which doesn’t respond to accelerator after a point of time.

ThoughtS

Kinetic Luna was launched with a stifled engine power of 40cc and it finally got upgraded to 60 cc (in its recent avatar). A vehicle that I can better call a motorized bicycle comes with cycle like pedals which are used as its ignition and its total weight of the engine is 7.5 kg just. Now you tell me a 7.5 kg engine with 40 cc power riding two 70 kg adults, Bahut Nainsafi hai.

Dad of the kiddo one fine day decides to try his hands on this vehicle and honestly kiddo isn’t impressed with the idea. The idea of a healthy hefty dad riding a Luna looked like a bear riding a bicycle in circus, a combo of Rajabhoj is to ganguteli and David v/s goliath. Amazingly the vehicle responded well but made it clear with the sound that it can take only one.

Kiddo becomes a monster and is in 12th standard. Comes to his mother’s mother’s place (pardon me for bad grammar) and gets his cousin’s Luna to ride and roam around. He rides and rides, ends up with no fuel. The vehicle is then peddled back to the house, showing yet another advantage of it.

Thoughts

By the looks of it the Luna looks simply like bigger version of a milkman’s bicycle, only difference being it has a 40 cc engine attached it. The pedals that are provided with it serve 2 purposes; 1) For igniting the engine, 2) Using it as a bicycle pedals if at all you run out of fuel. The Luna also makes a torrid sound which is a combined silence of Rx100s and Bajaj Supers’.

The monster kiddo now pillions with his cousin on to the vehicle and makes a new discovery about the sound of the vehicle. At first the vehicle makes a grunting noise and then the noise gets more uniform and tolerable. Once the vehicle gets on a slope then it makes a screechy sound as if it is about to die down.

Once the monster kiddo rode the vehicle at a constant speed and found that he cannot get more out of it. The vehicle constantly grunted on the speedometer speed of 50 kmph. The engine was going like a insane rock singer and suddenly there were sparks in it and it came to a stand still.

Thoughts

Luna is a decent moped for a single rider and whenever you burden it with uncommon weights it gives you a cry of its displeasure. Never ride a Luna constantly on a top speed which in my opinion is hardly around 35 kmph because the engine than gets too heated and sparks off to a halt.

Snapshot Finale

#7#

Once the monster kiddo refueled the vehicle and came to know about the fuel tank capacity of 3 liters including ½ a liter as reserve, amazingly the vehicle gives far less visits to the filling station because of the average which is like millions kmpl (Kiddo can exaggerate :))

Thoughts

The earlier Luna came up with fuel tank that had a cork like cap with no locks so your fuel in the fuel tank was bhagwaan bharose and even with locks (a case with the new Luna Super) you can easily pipe the fuel out from the engine itself. Its peanuts: D.

..::Kinetic Luna::..

Luna was a revolution. A 40 cc light weight moped extremely high on fuel efficiency of around 95 kmpl, Low maintenance cost and way to easy to ride. I won’t exaggerate if I call it a best learning vehicle if you want to learn riding 2 wheelers. The pedals so provided help the vehicle to start and also serves its multipurpose as a Bicycle. If you look for performance from the engine then keep those thoughts in your mind because it doesn’t deliver on those standards. What it does though is stick to good constant riding speed and fuel efficiency. Today I would still recommend it simply because the fuel crisis gripping us every day on. From Luna to Luna super the only substantial change the vehicle has is rectangular head lamp replacing round lights, electric engine with more power i.e. 60 cc. Rest all isn’t that noticeable.

Cticize’s Quote:: “As I said a nostalgic vehicle and a very good one too. Revolutionized the moped concept and laid a foundation for others to follow. Still today many of relatives and people ride it. Still today there are way better options available then this. ”
