Value for Money:

Well, this one comes after a long hiatus.  I have been lazy.  I got a strict'talking to' by one of my very dear friends from Canada about using the words'the wife' when referrring to my better half and so I have given up the usage of that term.  This one is for you Frances. LOL

So last night found us(Friends, in-laws, wife & moi) at the famous Khyber Restaurant at Kala Ghoda.  I was going there after almost 15 years and I had built up quite an anticipation for it.  We went there to celebrate a birthday and I recommended the restaurant.

The ambiance:

The table was reserved for us and there was no problems with getting it.  We arrived on the hour and were ushered straight to our waiting table.  The ambiance, as usual, blows your mind away.  The walls are really well done and the artwork by Anjolie Ela Menon is very good.  The main marble staircase, however, clashes with the otherwise'ruined' look of the place.

The Menu:

The menu was disappointing.  Most items were things you could find in any two-bit moghlai restaurant anywhere from Mohammadali Road to Mira Road.  There were some very few specialties like the'Khyber Raan'.  I was sorely disappointed with the menu.

The Service:

The waiters did not display the level of professionalism that one would expect from a place that charges 200 bucks for a bowl of steamed rice.  They had a tendency to group together and talk loudly in Hindi.  Most of the clientèle at that time was foreign and I did not find that situation very professional.  Our waiter had to be reminded thrice before he brought us our second bottle of water.

The food: (I know! I know!  I am getting to it!  Relax, will ya?)

The Raan was EXCELLENT!  The Black Dal was EXCELLENT.  The rest was all mediocre.  I was VERY disappointed.  The food was not to the standards that I would have expected from an upscale restaurant like Khyber.  thats all I have to say about the food.

The Bill:

With two appetisers, two non-veg, two veg and four desserts(we were 6 of us)+ TAX, the bill came to over 4Gs.

Summary:

If I have to blow up that kind of money, I would stick to 5 Star Hotel restaurants.  This one is not worth that kind of money.  Go somewhere else.  Taj or Oberois or Marine Plaza.
