There are some Hindi movies, where you need to keep your brain at home before going to watch it at a theatre. Then there are some like Khosla ka Ghosla that make you laugh by tickling the brain and not resorting to slapstick.

Unfortunately, such movies are far and few.

Anyways, I feel that this is one of the best Hindi movies in 2006.

This movie is totally about the common man with urban middle class roots and his aspirations and frustrations.

Anupam Kher (I'm a fan of his since his first movie) is impeccable as Kamal Kishore Khosla. His investment from his retirement benefits, which is a plot of land in south delhi; his enthusiasm for this land and his desperation at losing it to a land shark (superbly played by Boman Irani) make for the basic premise of the film.

Praveen Dabbas as Chiraunjee Lal Khosla (Cherry), Kher's second son, is a well etched and ably portrayed role. On Praveen rests the hopes of his father since his first son, (the loud typical Punjabi), a role well essayed by Ranveer, was not as successful as Kher would have liked him to be.

Praveen, as the software engineer working for an MNC, has a different set of aspirations from his father. He wants to settle in the US and is fed up of his old fashioned name. Tara Sharma, who plays Cherry's girl friend, works for a playwright and stage actor, played by Naveen Nishcol and called "Bapu" by everybody.

Tara always expects a bit more emotion and joy for life from Cherry who is a reserved character.

Vinay, as the Visa agent, who helps Cherry in procuring his US visa, is in a well developed role and is well portrayed by him.

Vinod Nagpal as the Sardar friend and guide of Kher, is a brief but well defined role.

The first half basically consists of Kher getting the land from a Property Dealer, who is in cahoots with Boman Irani. When the cash exchanges hands and the deal is done, is when the trouble starts. Kher returns next day with his family in tow for the Bhoomi Poojan to find a big wall around his plot and a "Chaukidar".

They think that some misunderstanding is there, and go and meet the property dealer who washes his hands off the whole affair stating that his role was over when he gave Kher the documents.

When they get back to the plot, the find a big, burly, Haryanvi Jat who in his typical Haryanvi bhaasha, threatens them with dire consequences and asks them to sort it out with the Boman Irani.

Boman and his cronies ask for 50 % of the price of the plot for relinquishing control and giving the land back to Kher.

Kher and his near and dear ones run from pillar to post and nothing happens. This is when Ranveer comes up with a "physical" way of evicting the land grabbers. Unfortunately it backfires and Kher ends up in jail for a day. This demoralises him to the extent of forgetting the land altogether.

Praveen, on seeing his father in such a demoralised state of mind, drops his plans to go to the US and hatches a plot with Vinay, Tara, "Bapu", Bapu's secretary and Ranveer to get their land back.

What follows is a brilliant plan (with its ups and downs), where their combined forces finally manage to outwit Boman Irani.

This movie is a must see, but I'm not too sure if children will enjoy the subtle humour.

I have already procured the DVD for this and have thoroughly enjoyed watching it.

The "Chakk de phatte" song is a catchy and foot tapping number.

There are no songs as such to interrupt the smooth flow of the movie, and whatever is there is part of the storyline and in the background, thereby adding to the feel of the movie.

The debutant director has done an excellent job and I sincerely hope he comes out with more movies like this.
