I was there at Khansama Restaurant - UB City Bangalore on Sunday for a dinner. Here is a detailed review of my visit:
Location & Ambience: Located in the most beautiful commercial area of Bangalore - the UB City, the restaurant has a very nice ambience. Appropriate lighting & very good decor with beautiful paintings on the walls. But, the tables are very close to each other despite of the fact that restaurant is huge in size. I could almost hear the conversation and analysis of a doctor couple sitting at the table next to me. For first 15 mins of my stay there, the music was very nice instrumental. But, later a Sufi bhajan CD was being played continuously. The management perhaps does not realize the fact that listening to same song (that too a Kailash Kher Bhajan) at a very special dinner can be very irritating. Will rate the ambience as 2.5/5 primarily due to the space saving & repeated music.
Service:The service was good. One waiter was dedicated for my table. Waiters were courteous & mannered. Received the starters on table within 10 minutes and the main course in 15 mins approx. I dropped my hand towel by mistake and did not realize. The waiter quickly came and replaced it with a fresh one. My rating - 4/5
Food - Now comes the most important part of eating out - the food itself. The food left a lot desired, especially when you are visiting a BJN restaurant and paying about Rs. 2000/ couple for only veg food with non-alocohalic drinks. The food was very average and I know a few much cheaper restaurants in Bangalore who serve better or same quality food. The prices for most veg gravies range about 300 bucks and chapaties/other breads are about Rs. 60-80 a piece. I have not tried any non-veg there. The taste of two gravy vegetables was almost the same, which you do not expect in such a restaurant. Also, 30-40% of the main course vegetables and starters were cooked in Olive oil (mentioned in menu) and therefore my options became limited.
Another disappointment was that even the starters and breads where cheese is mentioned as an ingredient, the cheese was no where there. I think they did not have mozarella cheese in stock but never stopped accepting orders for items that have cheese in them. My rating on food is also 2.5/5.
Price & value - Being a BJN group restaurant, its expected to be on expensive side but one also expects the quality which was clearly missing. Would not rate this restaurant as VFM. Moreover, the total bill was 30% extra due to taxes and compulsory service charge over & above the already pricy menu prices. They charge you 10% VAT, 10% Service Charge and about 4% Service tax. Almost ended up paying 30% extra over the menu prices. Not worth the money you spend. My rating 2/5.
Overall, rating for the restaurant - 2.5/5. If you are looking for good food, there are better places and same if you look for good ambience & comfort.
