There are a few movies which portray cops as the good guys and this one tries to be one among them, but there is no line of demarcation between the hero and the villain. The only difference is, the hero has a girl longing for him whereas the villain doesn't seem to have one(or need one). Both the hero and villain kill as many number of people as they wish as if they are playing a video game.

If the movie had been more realistic it would have made a mark as one of the best cop movies. But it doesnt touch even the Vijayakanth starrer CHATRIYAN in terms of commercial elements or KURUTHIPUNAL the Kamalhaasan starrer in terms of authenticity. If only the director Gautham had done some research about encounter specialists rather than rely on articles about the encounter specialists in magazines the movie would have been much better.

The movie starts on a great note. A badly battered Surya plunging in the deep and dark waters and a closeup of his eyes and the song that starts is pure magic. The tempo of the song just fires up everyone who has just entered into the virtual world of cinema halls from the real world. The encounter that follows is just too good to be cinematic. The intro song of Jyothika has her looking great in never before seen elegance as a cotton saree clad school teacher. The chemistry between Jyothika and Surya is just perfect. They are able to emote with just their eyes in the romantic scenes, don't know why the director chose to spoil those nice moments by adding lengthy and boring dialogues.

But the promising start just wavers after the entry of the villain(Jeeva, hero of UNIVERSITY). He's too cinematic to be true. In trying to show the villain as a man with a heart some unnecessary scenes have been added and it serves no purpose. The killing of a girl in a Disco is one such scene. The villian shoots her just becoz she wants to dance with him. If hez not interested in dancing then why did he go the dance floor of a disco? no logic here!

The climax and the scenes that precede it are too negative and heavy for the Indian viewer and some scenes are borrowed from hollywood flicks like SEVEN (A Brad Pitt starrer)

Eventhough the film doesn't raise up to expectations two people stand out for having done an excellent job. One is Surya for his almost perfect portrayal of an IPS officer, from the haircut to his body language he looks everybit an IPS officer. Another is the action choreographer Peter Heine for his excellent work with the fight sequences, be it the gun fights or the violent clashes everything he has done is perfect.

Music Director Harris Jeyaraj has done a good job as far as the songs are concerned but the background score is too loud and doesn't seem to mix well with the scenes. It's more of a disturbance rather than something that enhances the scenes.

Highly recommended only for SURYA Fans and also action movie buffs!!
