If there was one program which the whole India was watching together beyond all lingual barriers, it was none other than “Kaun Banega Crorepati” which was aired in the primetime slot in Star Plus. Now the show is coming back again in July 2005 with same Charismatic Big B as the host who is now acting in every third movie of bollywood but mostly in insignificant roles.

Big B

Amitabh Bachan was off screen for a while but made a big comeback through this show. It is not an easy job for an actor to transform into a host of a show because he has to be his own self in the show and he proved that he is a perfectionist. Any actor coming to small screen is considered as a big slide in his career and they are bound to loose the popularity and image but Big B proved the myth wrong and he became even more popular after this show. His matured, dignified, simple and down to earth style of conducting the show attracted many. Though there may be lot of debates about what is the reason for this massive success of the show, the failure of the similar shows which started to emerge in all the Channels with many popular stars proves that the whole success is because of the host the Big B (Who framed this name for him yaar?) of Bollywood.

Success Reasons

The other reasons for its success are the neat execution and direction of the show, format of the show, different rounds, help lines, nail biting moments, grand set, perfect lightings, background music, big prizes and finally the battle between talent and luck. The perfection in each and every department made this show a big success. A show will gain maximum acceptance only when there is a dose of reality, and here we all know well that it is not a mere fun game and the participant is going to get the whopping sum of 1 Crore if he passes all the rounds. And also it induces the viewers to virtually participate in the show. When each question is triggered, every one of us starts to find answer for them and though not an official participation many feel like achieved something by answering all the questions. It is this nature of the show which involved the audience into it which is necessary for any show to succeed.

Rules

The rules of the game make it very interesting to play and also to watch. The importance of taking big risks in life to reach something big can be clearly understood from the show. It plays with the confidence of one on his talents, but if you are over confident, you are bound to loose. It plays with man’s desire to money, in this materialistic world what else can motivate a man more than money. Of course nobody comes to the show to prove his talents to the world. We are not going to loose anything from our side but we play as if the 1 Crore is ours and if we don’t give correct answers we may loose it. First round where one makes it to the final game out of 10 is a very apt technique to judge the deserved one.

Technically Sound

The glossy floors, the arena for audience, position of central seats, black background makes it a compact yet grand set for the show. The lightings are simple and adds right mood to the show. The big lights behind Big B when the show starts as if he is standing in front of rising sun and the main lights focusing the two centre seats alone while the game is going on are worth mentioning. The background music is the major plus that adds mood through it sounds. The tension building moments are nicely evocated through the background sounds and even the lead music gives a grand opening sound. And above all the software and related technicalities behind the show was so perfect and nicely designed.

Winner of 1 Crore

As far as I know, Harshavardhan Navathe from Mumbai was the first and last Crorepati of the show.

Cons

Though some of the actions of the participants and Big B himself were so dramatic it gives a neat look to the show. The long commercial breaks is a big con of the show and of course without these sponsors 1 Crore is next to impossible.

Changes Needed for Freshness

Initially I thought of writing this review as changes needed in KBC to enhance freshness for making it a success again. But when I sat alone and thought about interesting changes in rounds and the format, I couldn’t get any and I think the success will continue only if the same format continues. It was so complete and perfect and it could hardly be made better than what it was. Here I leave this job to all the readers, come up with your ideas on the betterment of the show in comments section. Let me know it.

Will he reign supreme again with this show? Let us wait and watch.
