KBC, A Show Liked By Everyone

In the year 2000, Indian Television saw a revolution wherein millions of Rupees were awarded to participants in exchange of a few questions being answered in a TV show and the another biggest aspect of this show was that Indian cinema lovers fro the first time saw the Bollywood super star of all times, Amitabh Bachchan, making a debut on the small screen. Yes, I am speaking about TV show'Kaun Banega Crorepati'(KBC). Today, hardly one can be found who watches TV and does not know KBC.

Concept: The concept of KBC was borrowed from famous UK TV show'Who Wants to be A Millionaire'. It also copied the background music that played during the show right from the beginning til the end of it. Participants are invited to the show through a telephonic interview. Among the participants in the show, one is selected through a fastest finger test and is invited for the quiz onto the dais with the host. 17 questions are asked and if all questions are answered correctly, the maximum prize money is awarded to the participant in a cheque signed by the host. If one question is answered wrong, then the participant is eliminated. After one goes out as winner or is eliminated in between, then another fastest finger test is conducted to select another participant. The show continues for exactly one hour in an episode. There are life lines offered to the participant to take help of several options including the audience in the studio, experts or a telephonic conversation.

Sessions: Beginning with the first session in 2000-2001, so far, 8 sessions have been conducted, the last session having been aired in 2014. Except the third session in 2007 which was hosted by actor Shah Rukh KLhan, all other sessions were hosted by Amitabh Bachchan.

Telecast Rights: The show started being shown on Star Plus TV channel which hosted 3 first sessions and then it moved to Sony TV.

Prize Money: In the beginning, the highest prize money was Rupees one crore which has gone up to Rupees 5 crores in the last one.

Social Commitment: The noble part of this show is that some times, some renowned celebrities are invited to the show and the money won is given to some charitable organizations which is a great gesture on the part of the organizers of the show.

Many more things can be written about this fantastic show, but what I thought to be important, shared in this short review.
