They started KBC somewhere in July 2000. Before I start my review, let me educate members here that KBC is an exact copy of American show Who Wants to Be A Millionaire.e [Added on Dec. 15, 2000: Mermaid just told me that it is a British show. Thanks Mermaid}] It is hosted by popular American anchor Regis. Amitabh has picked up so many things from him. Ok let's leave that aside.
Coming to the show...I think overall people loved the show for the prize money naturally...but more was added to it. Big B's charisma...well his charisma died when he went flop with ABCL but his voice. The way he involved his contestant in the show. He showed them respect. He gave them honor...it's not like he said ''Chalo Jaldi Jawab do, warna fut lo.''...it was so much different then Derek O Brien's Bournvita show. It was so much fun than Quiz Master Siddarth Basu. The way Amitabh smiles. The way he reads the question. Calm and composed.
We Indians have always been humiliated by those in power and authority. Similarly DD and DD Metro has abused us by forcing dumb programs on us. We immediately began to like the way Amitabh treated us. KBC understood the psychology of an India. Indian's want respect. You see when you arrive in any foreign country...I've seen on my trips with my father, residents of that country are treated with respect, they are made wanted.
When Indians arrive on Indian airports, they are still given second class treatment. Humiliation. ''Kya laya hai'' is what our customs officer asks us. I have seen so many Indians cry at New Delhi Airport.
KBC said Audience and the participants are the king. Just like this mouthshut gives us respect and upper hand.
Even if we loose, Amitabh in his dramatic style consoles us! Those are the success reasons of KBC.
As for Rajesh's question if Nawathe's episode was rigged...I think yes! He did not use a single lifeline yet won 1 crore haha. He smiled like someone who was guilty of murder but was telling himself ''I know I will go free.'' I did not like the way he smiled. He knew he was going to win. Anyway, KBC had to make someone win 1 crore because SDCK was around the corner.
I hope I am making the point. KBC-Indians-Pscyhology-Respect-Feel Important--Money--Success. We have to wait and watch if they continue to make their participants feel important...all companies, TV shows, websites, products that give power to an average Indian will be successful!
