''Prepare for a test of your nerves'' - is the (too) literal translation of the title. Probably Ekta Kapoor knew it all along and she named it aptly too!! What with Ekta Kapoor's newly found craze for joint families in an age where nuclear families too are a rarity, (with more and more people opting to stay away), that is exactly what the serial does to you - get on your nerves.
The plot...
A story of a bengali family with a gall to take on even the Tatas and the Birlas and the Ambanis with their printing press, the 'Basu parivar' has an eternal nemesis in Komolika (who, incidentally, is now a household word). Komolika is married to Anurag, who divorces her and marries Prerna while Komolika is now married to his younger brother, Subroto. All that she wants is to 'destroy' the family and she has - albeit not the ones in the television!!
For the more patient of my kind, those who are 'fans' of Ekta Kapoor, may please make an effort to remember that the same thing happened with Mihir and Payal and Tulsi. The story is just passed on from serial to serial only the names of the characters involved is different. However, we choose to ignore it, because we as Indians like to see the neighbour's dirty linen being washed in public - never mind if this applies to each and everyone of us. Come on, I mean I thought the Indian audiences were much more intelligent than that??
The direction is pathetic, the dialogues are even more pathetic, the artistes are the worst! The only silver lining of the cloud is it is an excellent lesson to aspiring creative camera professionals, which angles not to use and what shots not to take. It is an excellent lesson to aspiring scriptwriters, how to make the most of your one-time written most disgustingly yucky and plotless, lifeless script by selling it to different serials. It is a Bible for those directors who still have some sense and who believe that direction involves creativity.
The End Result...
It is my ardent appeal to all you teens and twentees out there, please do not fall prey to her wiles, you shall repent. You have a great future and her serials are showing you the wrong future. Do not believe her but believe the competence of your mind. Most of all, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.
