I have long promised my loved one that I shall take her out some time... we never managed to get leave together therefore we kept on waiting for an oppurtunity to go out and spend some good time together.

Finally, we realized that if we shall wait for a long vacation we might end up waiting and going no where. Therefore, we decided that this Valentine Day (Sat.14th 2004) is perfect to go a weekend getaway. After rigorous search on the net I thought Kasauli is just perfect for us. A small, unexplored, surrounded with natural beauty, quite town promised to be the perfect place for a Valentine we had been waiting for a long. A couple of calls to some tour operators gave the verdict that we shall get no rooms in Kasauli as this being the Valentine Day and the week end, Chandigarh crowd will throng the city. But, by that time we were so anxious to get out of Delhi that we decided to give it a shot, come what may.

Early morning drive from Delhi to Chandigarh ( we pushed off at 5 in the morning on 14th) was a real pleasure, with a awesome Dhaba Chai at Sonipat gave us the push to drive non stop to Chandigarg. A short round of snacks at Chandigarh and we pushed off to Kasauli. There, we did the first mistake of our journey and asked a local at Kalka about the way to Kasauli, he pointed to a narrow steep road and very confidently said ?There it is?. As soon as we started driving we thought this can not be the road to such a popular destination.

Still, we kept on driving on that narrow road and had an accident at the altitude of 1200 Mtrs( A bus banged my car as there was no way two vehicles can cross each other). Thankfully, it was not a major one, the left indicator was gone with some major dents on the left panel. We decided to keep going and still spend our dream day at Kasauli. Reached Kasauli at around 2 PM and very easily got a lovely room at Kasauli Resort, that too with discount, arguably the best place to stay at Kasauli. The rumor proved wrong that we would not get a room at Kasauli, I guess it was a trick of Delhi Travel agencies to make some more money out of us.

As heard, I found Kasauli a VERY quite and peaceful place. It looks like the town is there only to cater to the needs of families of an Air Force division stationed there. Kasauli resort is 2 Km prior to the town so after having lunch we thought of walking up to the town and come back before it?s too dark. When we reached the Mall Road (so called) we found out that it?s a ?picnic spot? for Chandigarh people and we lost that sense of ?loneliness? which we have developed during our journey and during our short stay at hotel.

Disappointed, we started walking back to our hotel In that stretch of 2 KM we encountered at least 3 groups of youngsters with big cars of their dad?s ( I strongly believe from Chandigarh), boozing alongside the road and making the trip nightmare to stray couple?s like us. This spoiled our evening walk in that beautiful region, still, we had the entire evening ahead of us. So we came back to our hotel, enjoyed our special day. People at resort made it perfect for us with some outstandingly courteous service and an array of good food. Next day, we checked out drove back to Delhi with the ever lasting memories of accident, chilly air, greenery, beautiful moments and drunken youngsters.

P.S. IF YOU ARE DRIVING TO KASAULI, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE LEFT TURN WHICH IS WITHIN THE KALKA CITY. KEEP DRIVING ON SHIMLA HIGHWAY AND FROM A PLACE CALLED ?PARVANU? TAKE A LEFT TURN TO DRIVE ALL THE WAY TO KASAULI. IT IS A LITTLE LONGER BUT IS A BEAUTIFUL ROAD TO DRIVE.
