I visited Ooty one week back and travelled by KSRTC Bus from bangalore to Ooty. I had very bad experience with this bus first time. I have been using KSRTC bus service for the past two years, infact I am regular user of KSRTC bus for long distance journey. because, internet enabled ticket booking option and good A/C bus they have (Airavath). We occupied back seat of the bus and my kid and family were sitting the last seat in the bus. When the bus started from KG Bus stand, bangalore, another KSRTC bus hit the Rajahamsa OOTY bus in the back.
The glass was broken and the glass pieces were spread around me and my kid, wife. We all afraid and scared. My body, head, every parts were full of glass pieces. The people adjacent also had the same experince of having the glass pieces. The courtesy less KSRTC staff not even bothered about us and my crying kid. They were arguing with their KSRTC staff for the damage of the back seat glass.
The bus was stopped in the KG bus stand for 1.5 hours and no change of bus. Atlast, one supervisor came with screen cloth and covered the back seat with the cloth. Then vehicle started moving to Ooty. Not even removing the glass pieces from the seat fully and just they asked us to sit the same back seat, which has terrific, glass. Finaly My 3 year old kid got a seat to sit front and we all forced to travel in the same bus, since it was the last bus from bangalore to Ooty. The bus started at 12.00 pm (10.30 pm was the scheduled departure) with flowing glass pieces and it was sleep less fearful night journey.
I was keep on watching, when other glass pieces will flow inside on us, since the some of glass pieces still the body frame. When the bus crossed Nanjangud, in between Mysore and Gudalor, another KSRTC bus (10.15 pm start time), which started 15 minutes scheduled time before of ours had Tyre puncture. They are running with finding the right screw Jack as they don't have correct screw jack to lift the bus. When They got screw Jack and steppy tyre from our KSRTC bus, the same Jack also not suitable for Lifting the bus. (No engineer think, I belive at KSRTC). Total unfit screw jack size to the Rajahamsa bus was provided to the both the bus. Finaly all short short cut technology applied for finaly they are able to chnage the punctured tyre.
The same KSRTC bus was already punctured at Mandiya once and this is second puncture happened. While removing the tyre, I realized that the brake was not functioning on the front tyre and again all short cut technology applied to unscrew the bold from the tyre. because of this, ours also delayed another two hours. Here is my questions and suggestions to the people who travel in this bus to OOty.
1.Why this KSRTC staff does not know the basic courtesy to check with the passengers, when some happens wrongly.
2.How passengers can travel with broken glass in the seats
3.Why there is no propoer check up before the vehicle goes to Hil stations.
4.What engineers and supervisors doing by providing, purchasing wrong size screw jack.
5.Why Bad condition Stepney Tyres are not checked before starting
6.Hill station drive supposed to have 4 wheel brake? When the front wheel brake is not propoer, how safe the journey to hill station? Dear readers, If you are travelling to Ooty, please prefer to go by Train/Bus to Coimbatore and then take Bus to ooty rather than depending on poor KSRTC service. There are 36 passengers to vouch this fear full travel we had on 26th Sep 2008.
