It's such a shame that no body (till now) has written any review about this movie. I would hate to hear that this movie is flop (I hope it's not).

This is one of the very few movies in recent times that didn’t make me go “oh come on, cut the crap man!” or “yeah right, that is so believable” or “why am I watching this movie? Has my life become so boring?”

It has a very simple plot; probably that’s why I like the movie so much after all. It’s a plain fun movie, like ‘Five Star’. I don’t know if I should be discussing the plot here, because it’s the cinematography that pulls you in to the movie. Nonetheless a brief background of the story shouldn’t hurt. First thing, it’s not your typical triangular love story, second thing it’s not this cheesy ‘friendship is great’ story either. You know what? I think it’s hard to explain the story in short; if I tried it would just be an oversimplification of the movie. Let me try to find other reviews which kind of describe the story.

https://rediff.com/movies/2005/dec/02kanda.htm, there that link has the story and an opinion, which I don’t completely agree with.

Hoping that you did read the review there, I’ll address the points that I disagree with

{{All the characters Priya has created are real. Krishna's unmarried elder sister, Ramya's younger sister, all of them are well etched-out. But, sadly, there is no story to string them together and take the plot forward, especially in the second half.}} – One of the main problems with some of the directors who are making (have made) relatively good movies is that they try to pull all the characters in to a closing, to give a consummate happy ending, which is too sweet and cloying. In my opinion it’s just not necessary, I think it’s perfectly fine to leave a few ends open. It’s not a documentary on some controversy; it doesn’t have to answer all the questions that are dealt with, in it. In fact it’s a big plus, the screen play revolves around the two main characters of the move, the subtle and realistic relation that slowly builds between them. Yes they don’t have ‘happy family photo’ moment, so what? The ending is just as happy as it should have been.

There are a few ‘cute’ moments in this movie as well, but this time I was fine with those ‘cute’ moments unlike those in ‘Gilli’ (in the dining table), which irritate you to the core. The people have acted so well, it was good to watch a movie full of actors who had natural physical expressions (remember those awkward amateur acting done by police officers and doctors in Gajini et al?). That’s one thing that a lot of Indian movie makers continuously ignore, the hazards of hiring amateurs for playing minor roles. When the movie is completed, those scenes are like sand granules in a bowl of rice, it aches you when trapped in the mouth. And the language, waaaahh it’s just sweet, they all have spoken good Tamil. I felt like watching a late 70s B movie (B for Balachandar, Balumahendra, Barathiraja, Bagyaraj). The dubbing artists have done an amazing job, again it’s just so natural and smooth. Prasanna’s Tamil is just awesome, his la, La, Zha all sound perfect in his voice. And needless to say he’s been a good actor right from his first movie, so it’s not a surprise that he’s done a great job in this one. They do get in to touchy situations and before it gets to a ‘red alert’ they snap out of it. I think that’s the scoring point for this movie, it has its own share of senti and emotional stuff, but it’s mostly subtle and pleasant. In other words, I liked the movie so much because it kind of addressed all the irritating factors present in other movies, pretty well. In doing so they might have missed out on a few points (like stupid song sequences), but I guess you can only expect so much from a ‘different’ movie, to be accepted by the Tamil audience. There is a little bit of Mani Ratnam’s influence in the movie, probably because of P.C. Sriram’s cinematography and of course the obvious influence; the director is a former assistant of Mani Ratnam’s.

Merke Merke is a good song, and that’s the only song I could think of, oh yes the carnatic song too:p. Yuvi has done a decent job with the background score too, it sure lubed movie’s progress .

You’ll like the movie if you are: Young! Fed up with masala movies, tired of hearing meaningless dialogues, sick of amateur acting, annoyed with lack of logic, and pissed with typical happy endings (this is a happy ending too, but not all that typical),

Suresh

PS- I saw the movie once again, and that's when it struck me that this guy Yuvi has screwed about 5 minutes of the movie with his horrible voice. Seriously why is this guy singing? ore mukkal munahal, edho elavu veetu oppari madhiri.
