~~~A Cinema for a cause~~~. Review on Kaminey

Well, this is not a routine masala film which one can go keeping the brain at home. Lovers of good cinema have a reason to celebrate here. An art is highly useful when it is used as a weapon for social correction; to echo the sentiments of the people to keep the culprits under stress. Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey is a bold attempt to rip off the the mask from the face of those who occupy esteemed positions and manipulate the situation for their personal interests.

The director has woven a multi layered vision to the film. However, when we come to the obvious conclusion those layers will be a perfect fit. You can consider the film as a double Puzzle which you have to sort out. Like in puzzle, the winners will like it and try to unlock more. For those who fail to sort out will find it absurd and time waste. However, in the film, there is some consolation for people who fail to solve the puzzle as well. In a general sense, the film is a story of two brothers, one (Charlie/Shahid Kapoor) who went after money and turned as a gangster where the other (Guddu/Shahid Kapoor)follow his ambitions and turned a struggling youngster. Guddu fall in love with sweety (Priyanka Chopra), sister of a local politician who uses regionalism. The politician is now targeting the loverboy. On the other hand, Charlie ends up with a good amount of drugs which the underworld was trading and he is chased by police who had a hand in the transaction. Watch the movie to know more.

What happened in Mumbai? Who was behind the Mumbai terror attack? Whose heads were traded? The protectors of the local land, where were they when it all happened? How such a massive preparation went unnoticed? How the terrorists managed to reach the city in daylights? Are you the one interested in such questions? Are you ready to get the answers in metaphoric ways? Kaminey have some answers.

Vishal Bhardwaj has done an excellent job as the writer and as a director in the film. The script was good. He also managed to get the best out of his cast. It is a technically better film as well. Like in Omkara, the dialogues are a major plus. Thumps up!

Shahid Kapoor as Guddu is his usual self. However, as Charlie, he simply rocks!!! Priyanka Chopra has done her best performance in the film. Her role was limited but the way she performed is simply brilliant. Amol Gupta has done a scene stealer performance. Rest of the cast was competent in their roles.

Cinematography is excellent. Choreography is ok & editing is good. Songs were very good.

The film’s general track however doesn’t match to the expectation. It could have been made better by giving some space to the Guddu Sweety track and few scenes between the brothers. The climax shootout didn’t made sense where everybody is shooting anybody made only like a mindless comedy film. This is understandable given the picture in a larger canvas, but for the general aspect, it doesn’t make the sense. Also, the film was bit darker in its presentation.It is a must watch for serious cinema lovers.

For general audience, the film has something to offer and it may satisfy their moderate expectations but it does not meet the high expectations. People from Maharashtra will enjoy it more than people from other territories for obvious reasons. Overall, Thumps up!!
