Kam than standard. Review on Kaminey

Kaminey…yup I can very well assign something similar to this to the film-maker for making me waste money and more important, a Saturday evening watching the movie.

People like us who live in a bottle of work with so little spare time deserve better.

Kaminey is a hotpotch of diverse film-making styles. Ramgopal Verma, Anurak Kashyap, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Vidhu vinod Chopra all seem to be in a never ending brawl with each other with the cacophony seldom becoming an orchestra.

I thought I was watching Delhi 6, Sarkar, Parinda and what not all together. The characters of the twin brothers Guddu and Charlie played by Shahid Kapoor are not nicely etched out. What is so different about them? If they have not seen each other for three years, they manage to look so similar. What was Vishal Bharadwaj attempting? A dark obscure form of Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors?

After Maqbool and Omkara, expectations were high. The plot confuses big time with no deep seated response from the viewer. The dialogues are also stale with no brilliance. The attempt to put vernacular flavor with Bengali and Marathi diologues also fizzes out.

The plot goes here and there and reminded me my first solo ride in my car. Boom Bang Crash!

The only saving grace is Priyanka Chopra. I watched Fashion and Kaminey almost back to back and Piggy Chops is on the path to being a good actor. Her performance and emoting and dialogue deliveries deserve kudos. Shahid should have been given a ‘Dard de Disco’ shirtless item number. Why I am saying this…you will know if you have watched even the promos.

The camera work is also mediocre. Gulzar’s lyrics in the songs shine out and that’s it.

A movie which has no sense of direction, which begins like a noir and ends like a masala movie…Delhi 6 endingJ or a movie which should be named.brothers at war or stupid brothers. To worsen it, like rotten tomato on stale pizza is the chemistry between Priyanka Chopra and Shahid.

I kept on wondering who was the real Kamina? Me of course…a fool indeed to brave swine flu and sit in a theatre just to watch this.

There are some stray parts in the movie which attempted to show some promise and these came in the form of ironies. For example, Guddu works for a social service organisation and there is a public awareness dance campaign highlighting AIDs awareness where the protagonist is distributing condoms. Soon after it's shown that his girlfriend is pregnant since he had unsafe .with her.

Charlie gambles for the first time to save his father and becomes a professional gambler and is shown to gamble for his life and his brother.

The'Jai Maharashta' Raj Thackeray spoof(which hurts me more than amusing me) rejects The UP boy Guddu as his sister's husband. He however does not abstain from hunting for the guitar load with coccaine.

The narcotics department which is trying to sell off coccaine rather than destroying it, a theme which was also touched by the movie'Zeher'.

The word'Kaminey' which applies for every other male character in the movie so spares Priyanka Chopra.
