This is one dark movie! Literally and figuratively.
Dark gloomy days; rainy, dismal nights; joyless, depressive atmosphere; even Shahid’s white shirts seem black!
Darkness aside, Kaminey, is a classy, stylized rendition of the clash between good and evil(I guess).
I understood the movie as little, as what I understand of Quentin Tarantino movies, so maybe they fall into the same category.
You don’t know why such movies are made, but they become an addiction all the same. You will either love or hate this movie; there is no gray area here. Remember Omkara, Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction?
You will have to watch it twice(or more) to put the characters together. The characters in any case are eccentric and saturnine; joy erupts only when gory bloodshed is on.
Lose yourself in the action unfolding in front of your eyes, admire the superior directional capabilities, the superb cinematography, the catchy songs and superlative acting – do not look for the nonexistent storyline.
In fact, Vishal falters(in the black and white sequences) when he tries to explain the proceedings and find excuses for the lead character twins.
The female lead is a gutsy, feisty character played with aplomb by Priyanka.
The surprise of Kaminey is Shahid, who under Vishal’s baton, has suddenly matured, and how! If Shahid had fumbled, the whole film would have gone haywire. Vishal has a new equation: ‘Duniya mein logon ko’+ R.D+ Towel+ Shahid= SEXY!
See the movie; if you hate it, Amen; if you love it, see it again………and again!
