Kamat... a house hold name in south Bangalore for North Karnataka food opened up a vegetarian restaurant around 7 years ago at the far corner of Bull Temple Road (& adjacent to Bugle rock park) in Basavanagudi and named it Kamat Bugle Rock. I have been eating there since then and have become one of its many fans.
The restaurant is divided into 3 floors, each serving its own role and a different menu. The one which makes me return to the restaurant every time is located at the 2nd floor of this hotel, which specializes & serves North Karnataka cuisine.
The food served here is not only lip-smacking but also authentic and served at its hottest! The menu is the same for everyone except that you could choose if you needed the special or the regular meal (the only difference being a sweet, vada and ice-cream included for the special menu). The best part of the meal comes in the form of the Jowar Bakri which is served till you say no, along with tasty curries.
The meal includes the customary South Indian Rasam, Sambar & Curd served with rice, some tasty doklas (Karnataka style) and a bottom less glass of buttermilk, which is filled up every time it is found empty. The butter milk is so tasty that I normally finish 3-4 glasses during the course of my meal.
Around 5 years back to entertain the waiting crowd, the management introduced Live Classical Music during week ends and public holidays. But today, the live music has become an integral part of the restaurant and has been extended to be played every day. Today, people come here not only to have their favorite meal but also to listen to the pleasant Indian classical music. This is evident because, people get back to the waiting area after their meal :-) The hotel by doing this has not only kept their guests entertained but is also encouraging local talent.
This review would go incomplete if I don't speak about the hospitality of this nice hotel. Every hotel serves food, but this place the food is served with an open heart. The guys here request you to have more food every time they serves, as if you are one of their guests at home!!!This is something I have not noticed in any hotel I have ever visited.
But here are a few words of caution... don't even think of entering this place on a Weekend afternoon. You may have to wait for a good 2 hours before you get a table. Again, by saying this, if you are an Indian Classical music lover, this would be a good reason to visit this place during week end ;-)
The place is neat and comfortable and at Rs. 110/- per head for a regular meal, I say... this place is truly worth a visit.
