Padmashree Kamal Hasan is nothing short of a phenomenon in Indian cinema. He is an Institution by himself for budding/aspiring theatre artists.
Having made his screen debut with the Tamil movie Kalathur Kannamma at the tender age of 5, he keeps his audiences captivated to this day. He got his break with K. Balachander's Telugu hit Maro Charithra.
Language or style or type of cinema is no barrier for this thespian. Besides Tamil, he has also performed in movies in Hindi and other languages. He has played a plethora of characters including a ventriloquist, an under-world don, a freedom-fighter, a classical dancer, a blind violinist, a dwarf clown and even a mentally challenged man. Each of these performances have left a lasting impression on anyone who has seen them.
Be it comedy or action or dance or music, Kamal Hassan has always set the screens on fire with his performances. This man believes in nothing less than perfection. He is one actor who has not been afraid to experiment, and has done it all.
His talents do not stifle themselves within the cinema screen. He is a great singer(and has often sung for himself.. Sundari Neeyum Sundaran Nyanum.. is an amazing song sung by him in the movie Michael Madan Kamarajan), cook, dancer et al.
He is also the winner of several Indian awards for acting. He has also received the best actor award at the Asian Film festivals held in 1983 and 1985 for Saagara Sangamam and Swathi Muthyam, respectively.
I could go on and on about this man, and still would not have said enough. I only wish him luck and hope he keeps at it and we get to see a lot more of him on the screen.
