I dont really feel like writing this review bcos by doing so I will be offending many and there is a chance of my head getting chopped too by die hard SRK fans. But then a catharsis is better than chronic cribbing so I will better put ''my viewpoint'' down here bout this hit ''hindi music video''.
I don't know if its the obsession with our fav. stars or simply lack of entertainment in our daily lives which make these silly and cliched efforts a huge success but they prove again and again that in bollywood experimentation is a crime. You stick to the magic formulae and with a lil manouvre you can deliver a huge hit. Look at the mighty SRK's hair style for instance. it has not changed a bit since the time he started working in the movies. and so has his acting style and dialog delivery but we are not complaining. The more cliched he gets, more we fall in love with him.
Talking bout the ''movie'' ..well it stars none other than the ''dynamic'' SRK, bubbly and wobbly zintababe, the phoenix of bollywood saif khan and many others including our own jaya ji, lilette dubey and of course how can I forget Kantaben. Now coming to the story, I can describe it in three lines. For the rest go and buy a music CD or cassette of the movie.
1) Pretty woman and the phoenix are college friends and phoenix loves pretty but does not have the courage to express his love.
2) SRK is the next door neighbour to Pretty woman and has fallen in love with her.
3) SRK is dying of a really really rare disease (which has defied every concept of
medical science..) and hence sacrifices his love for the phoenix.
Thats all.. So what if roshans did a ''forrest gump'' meets ''ET'' in ''koi mil gaya'' here's karan johar with ''Anand'' meets ''Philadephia''.
But too be frank there are a few enjoyable moments in the movie like the kantaben sequences ( can we say homosexuality is not a taboo anymore in india and hindi movies are coming of age as far as sexuality goes ?) The film also delves into ''gujju'' bashing at times. The racist overtones should have been avoided. Overall the movie is very good looking , no doubt about it (We are always fascinated by the foreign soil...cleaner roads...no autorickshaws....skyscrapers..etc ).Promos are well made. The song and dance sequences are well shot but coming to the individual performances I rate SRK a big 'O' as he is too painful to bear most of the times.
Pretty woman is flat (oops..I mean the dialog delivery..) and expressionless. The phoenix is cute but helpless. Jaya ji is weird and looks heavily confused bout her role. lilette dubey's role has been carved out of nowhere.
But nevertheless I have the experience of watching this music video in a theater and I swear people were going hysteric about it. I know guys who have seen it 5 - 10 times and I am sure 8 out of 10 of us would like the movie. And the rest of the two, pls rate my review ;-).
