Movie Review
Kal ho na ho
The good
The characterization was very good. Each character had something different about it. A lot of thought has clearly gone in to each and every character especially the three main ones Aman, Rohit and Naina. All the characters fitted together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle particularly the Kapur family( I mean the main kapur family). The picturisation was good,but you expect that if the film is shot in new york . The unique way of telling the story,like having the characters randomly comment on an incident was cool but that aint new (Sangeeth Shivan had used this in his movie ?Halo?, that is the one I know of, maybe there might be lots more ). The songs are decent, the title song miles ahead of the rest . Saif has done well in his role as a confused guy, but that?s the only role he gets these days. Preity zinta also has done justice to her character (????.somebody missing? Coming to that?)
The bad
Lots of them?.the second half of the film drags on for eternity although the story very predictable. Actually you get the idea of how its gonna end by the halfway mark,but it goes on and on and on ???
May be mr.Advani had some extra film, that?s ok..
Did you see Amitabh bachchan drive a taxi by when rohit and aman were walking? You will see that situation in the next movie of YJ and KJ. They really like to use big stars as extras, god knows why, and don?t rani and kajol have anything else to do. All they earned were catcalls from the guys in the front row.
Is it impossible to get a heart problem treated in the Big Apple. A heart transplant could have saved Aman?s life couldn?t it? That?s what common sense tells you but this is bollywood. I think it would have been better off if the guys who wrote the story had gone for a brain problem (for aman , that is) obviously the brain cant be transplanted.
The jokes,most of them ordinary the most stupid thing about the movie was that the same situation was used repeatedly. I don?t know who did the humor part but replaying the same joke again and again (the one where the lady at rohits house keeps fainting when she sees rohit and aman together) ; this went on umpteen times. once or twice that was laughable but then it looked really sick.
I really don?t know why recent hindi films have a trend of wanting to make someone luk like a vamp and in the end make them luk like a slut. And there is no way someone like Jennifer can team up with a slut to open a restaurant and speaking of the restaurant that song from lagaan could have been avoided.
Aman?s mom wher was she at the end may be she left him for dead
But then she would have been the haddi in the kabab when all this was going on.
The climax makes me think the director was in agreement with one Mr.Shakespeare .i think mr.advani says ?FRAILTY THY NAME IS WOMAN? without actually saying it. When Preity leaves Saif just like that when she hears about aman?s prob. She goes on and hugs aman on the banks of the Hudson Is thst wat a woman would do , me dunno Seeing rohit stay with naina even after knowing that at best he is a substitute and at worst?. We?ll leave dat.
All these pales in comparison with the next part of the review
The ugly
SHARUKH KHAN all the way?..
The way in which he acted had shades of a role played by Eddie Murphy (the name of the character was ?G? I don?t remember the name of the movie)

The ?senti? scenes looked horrendous (that is an understatement) Someone teach him to cry pleaseeee! The way in which he goes to Saif at the end and holding his heart (as if he had been shot!) looked like a schoolboy actor who was trying to please the judges to get a best actor prize..He might get a best actor prize. ?Overacting? again would be an understatement. He continued from that insane role he played in k3g.this role underlined the fact that sharukh would never rise to the heights reached by great hindi actors.
