Lyrics : Javed Akhtar

I had just got to an airport in New Delhi to find out that I had left 2 items of my luggage back home at my Masi's house. It was impossible to go to Patna without them, so I had to send ''CHOTTU'' back to my Masi's house to bring them. By the time he came, I had well missed my flight as they could not delay their flight that long for me. The next one was in 5 hours. In an exceptionally bad mood with nothing to do for 5 hours except for curse AIR SAHARA, I sat down and rooted through my ''KOOKAI'' handbag. There to my bemusement, I found nothing except for a few pictures of Shahrukh, several empty chewing gum wrappers, my walkman, and one or 2 audio cassettes I had bought in New Delhi before leaving. One of these was Kal Ho Na Ho. I ''bunged'' it into my walkman, sat down on a chair and waited for the five hours to pass.

TRACK 1 - KAL HO NA HO

I absolutely fell in love with this song. Its lyrics are very beautiful. This talks of time changing and how you should live every moment to the best, because who knows if tomorrow will come or not. I couldn't get enough of this song, and played it about 2 or 3 times before moving onto the next track.

This song shows Sonu Nigam at his best. His vocal talent is streaming in this song, and if you are not already in love with him, you will fall in love with him by the end of this song. Lyrics are amazing.

Har Ghari Badal Rahi Hai Roop Zindagi,

Chaav Hai Kahi, Kahi Hai Dhoop Zindagi,

Har Pal Yahan, Jee Bhar Jiyo

Jo Hai Samah, Kal Ho Naa Ho

Every minute is changing the colours of life,

Sometimes it is cold, sometimes it is hot,

Live every minute to the full,

Whatever the atmosphere,

Who knows is tomorrow will be or not.

TRACK 2 - MAAHI VE

This song is desi mixed with bhangra. It has an irresistable beat which just makes you click (or if you can't click) tap along to it. This is a very dancey song, and is great for weddings and parties etc. etc. This song will be around for a long time and I think is one of the greatest experiments with music that SHANKAR-EHSAAN-LOY have ever tried. The song was risky as it could have a posItive effect or a negative effect on the audience. It could be registered as a cool mix or it could be dismissed as ''not good enough.'' Thank goodness it had a posItive effect.

Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Sadhna Sargam and Sujata Bhattacharya sound good in this song and Shankar Mahadevan's screaming is the best!

Tere Mathe Jhumar Damke,

Tere Kaanon Baali Chamke,

Hai Re,

Maahi Ve

On your head, your ''jhumar'' shines,

On your ears, your ''baali'' twinkles,

Oh,

My love.

TRACK 3 - IT'S THE TIME TO DISCO

Only genius like SHANKAR-EHSAAN-LOY could have come up with a track as retro as this. Again it had the risk that the audience might not register with it as it is not the average song you find in a movie, but again it registered well with the audience. Again, it is a very dancey song and absolutely perfect for discos.

Vasundhara Das' voice was absolutely brilliant in this song. Her voice is very modern and retro and very appropriate here as I had JUST seen Monsoon Wedding. The voices of Kay Kay and Shaan are brilliant and match up well with Vasundhara's.

Dil Hai Mere Deewana Kya

Kehta Hai Ab Ghabrana Kya

Taal Me jAB Jhoome Badan

Hichkichana Sharmana Kya

My heart is mad,

Its telling me theres no need to worry,

When my body dances to the beat,

No need to be shy and hesitate,

TRACK 4 - KUCH TO HUA HAI

This is a simple and sweet song. Finally, I meet one of those average sing-along songs that you get in movies. I must admit I thought this song was ''a bit'' too long and I started getting a ''little bit'' bored, but it is a lovely song anyway!

Alka Yagnik is her usual self in this song, simple and sweet. Can I just say that I think these songs are the only kind she can do. I have a request for Ms Yagnik. You sing absolutely beautifully, but can you sometimes attempt to do something different. Shaan's voice is great and I think it suited Saif Ali Khan a lot in this movie.

Kuch To Hua Hai,

Kuch ho gaya hai,

Do Char Din Se, Lagta Hai Jaise,

Sab kuch alag hai, sab kuch naya hai,

Something has happened,

Something has definately happened,

For a few days, it feels like,

Everything is different, Everything is new.

TRACK 5 - KAL HO NA HO (SAD)

I am not going to tell you much about the beginning traditional SHAADI bit, but about the verses. The verses are excellent, they are absolutely brilliant and nothing will be able to overcome them in my mind, they are soo nice.

This time instead of writing an english translation, I am going to list both verses, as I cannot just pick one.

AGAIN, the voices of Alka Yagnik and Sonu Nigama are excellent.

RATING: 100%

Tum Ho Gham Ko Chupaye,

Mein hoon Sar Ko Jhukaye,

Tum Bhi Chup Ho,

Mein bHI Chup hoon,

Kaun Kise Samjhaye,

Ab DooriyaN, Itni Hai To,

Milna Yahan, Kal Ho NA hO.

Sach Hai ke Dil To dukha HAI,

Humne magar socha hai,

Dil ko hai gham kyon,

Aankh hai nam kyon,

Hona hi tha jo huwa hai,

us baat ko, jaane bhi do,

jiska nishaan, kal ho na ho.

TRACK 6 - PRETTY WOMAN!

O CHAKKK DEEE!!!! BHANGRA ANYONE??

My favourite song of the whole album! This is an absolutely brilliant song with a dholak beat. I love that dholak!!! God save the dholak!! This song has good lyrics, and Sonu Nigam has sang this well. I love the way they have mixed bhangra, with typical indian, and rap.

RATING: 100%

Maine jise abhi abhi dekha hai,

Kaun hai woh anjani,

Woh hai koi kali ya koi kiran,

Yah hai koi kahani

The person who I have just seen,

Who is that stranger,

Is she a flower or a morning,

or is she a story.

AFTER LISTENING TO THE ALBUM, I HAVE ONLY ONE THING TO DO!

THANK YOU AIR SAHARA FOR NOT DELAYING YOUR FLIGHT!!!!
