This is the first time I’m writing on what’s called a “controversial” issue- our most beloved Kkekta Kapoor serials…

Ok I admit that Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai did look different, but then again so do all of them. And the first few episodes are quite good and fun to watch…but then comes in the vamps and evil guys to spoil it..sighs

I havn’t been following this serial from the beginning but I have watched a few episodes here and there and if I’m not mistaken the story goes kuch is tarah:

Kripa, one of the lead characters, is a seedhi-saadhi girl, who comes from Nainital…a girl with a pretty face and an even more beautiful voice; she wants to become a singer. She is coincidentally a die-hard fan of the famous rock-star Angad.

The actress (Neha Bamb), does a decent job in her role, and the character of Kripa definitely suited her looks and acting. Her costumes fit well into the character as well…one of the pros in K serials are the clothes and the general character build-up (hats off to the costume designers)!

Angad (the other protagonist) on the other hand had to be the total opposite to her (well, that woz kind of predictable). Angad appears to be some stuck-up rich spoilt guy with a good voice. And apart from all that he also has the attention of all those girls on whom he signs his name with lipstick (that’s a new trend)! But recently, after falling in love with Kripa, his personality has become more likable!

Mohammad Iqbal Khan, the person who plays Angad, has done justice to the role. If he’s the same guy who was in Fun2sshh then he definitely has come a longggg way! Before KYPH I only knew him as “the guy from Fun2sshhh”, but now fame has struck! He has a strong identity as Angad and the credit goes to Ekta Kapoor here! For me there’s nothing more attractive than a guy with a guitar (but he’s got to be able to play it ;) lol!). Angad seems to have got an equal amount of off-screen fans as he does on-screen!

Then theres Prithvi (who can actually sing) another guy who’s crazy about Kripa…You’ve gotta feel sorry for the bechaara who suffers from heartbreak (yeh to hona hi tha). But sometimes I feel like screaming in his ear “leave that girl who doesn’t even care about you and come to someone like… ME who does!!!” But u no wot? It still hasn’t worked…

Amit Tandon from Indian Idol fame (one of the 11 finalists) plays this character. Whether he can act or not is a totally different issue, but we can understand one thing from his sudden jump from singing to acting – if you’re jobless and good-looking then Ekta aunty’s doors are always open for you!

Other characters include the very evil looking mother of Angad, who has a certain hatred towards Kripa from the start. And especially now after Angad and Kripa have spent that night together (tauba tauba!), she’s no way going to let her son marry that girl!

There is also Mishti (atleast the names are original), Prithvi’s sister who at first seemed nice but now also has something against Kripa for breaking her dear bhaiya’s heart and she also wants to marry Angad now…

If any of you have read the blurb on the SET India website then u shud see that they’ve described this program as “Breaking away from stereotypical love stories, ‘Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai’ with its believable characters, relatable story and the signature Balaji production value, is all set to raise the bar for romance on television as we know it.” Now, how many of you can relate to this story? Well not me for sure…or maybe just lead a very boring life? ;)

The “opposites attract” theory comes to life again in this love saga, so I don’t think the story can be described as original. But its definitely exploring new horizons in Ekta Kapoor standards, something different and untouched. It is a step higher then some of the melodramatic things you tend to get dragged into, a breath of fresh air….or so it seems, but I’m not going to keep my hopes up too high, kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi aur ek Ekta Kapoor serial hamesha ek Ekta Kapoor serial hi rahegaa!
