Amit Trivedi is the uprising A.R.Rahman

After not making an appearance in MS for nearly 3 months, I've finally decided to pen down this review which I've been pondering in my mind, for quite a while. The review is on the songs of Kai Po Che, the music being directed by Amit Trivedi.

As the title of the review suggests, it is true that I think in the days to come, Amit Trivedi will surely replace AR Rahman. I know many of you will be angry with this statement and most of you will disagree, but if you look at the works of Rahman and Trivedi in the recent years, it is not that surprising to believe this statement.

Yes, Rahman has got Rockstar and Slumdog Millionaire to claim his superiority, but looking back at Trivedi's recent works, some of which are Aisha, Udaan, Ishaqzaade, English Vinglish and Kai Po Che - I don't think Trivedi is very far behind.

Done with the comparison, lets come back to the songs of the movie. This movie has three songs (about which I know of) and all of them are splendid. Amit Trivedi has got great simplicity in his music style and his originality is amazing. Each song seems fresh and new and it is never tiring to keep on listening to one song endlessly. The singers have done brilliant work too and as they are all new singers, they each have their own new style and splendor. The lyrics are nice too, though I have to admit - some of it doesn't make sense. But then, which song in Bollywood these days makes any sense??

Lets check out the songs -

(1) Manjha - Sung by Amit Trivedi himself, this was the first song released of the album, and solely responsible for perking up my curiosity for this movie. This song has, what you call, some kinda energy about it - you immediately get cheered and liven up when you listen to this song. Its powerful and fills you with some kind of spirit, and that's exactly what I love this about song. The lyrics are good too and this song is definitely worth listening to for hours, wasting precious time meant for other work :)

Roothe khaabon ko mana lenge

Kati patangon ko thaamenge

Haa haa hai jazba

Ho ho hai jazba

Suljha lenge uljhe rishton ka manjha

(2) Meethi Boliyan - Sung by Mili Nair and Amit Trivedi, this song is AWESOME!! Its so sweet and soft and soulful and yet powerful at the same time !! The song has a soft start to it with Mili Nair in the lead which is soon followed by Amit Trivedi and oh yes, he is the star of the song. The way he sings the lines assigned to him is just marvelous. After that sweet beginning, Amit Trivedi kind if gives release to the song and infuses a new spirit into it. His voice and singing has so much life in it , that it hardly seems that he is recording a song - it is more or less as if he is singing for his own enjoyment.

Aye zindagi

Hume sobaton ka nasha hai

Yeh sobaten yaaron ki

Aye zindagi

Hume hosh ki na tu dava de

Dua de dua de

(3) Shubharambh - This song is sung by Shruti Pathak and Divya Kumar and is the last song of the album. When I first heard this song, I lost interest as quickly as the curiosity to listen to this song had arisen. It took nearly 4-5 times of listening to the song again (forced) and that is when I began to like this song also. And now, the more I hear it, the more I like it. This song is some kind of Gujrati folk song and is quite good. The singers have done a well enough job and though this song is sure to fail in rocking any dance-floor, it is a must-hear song yet.

Hey Shubharambh ho Shubharambh

Mangal bela aayi

Sapnon ki dehri par

Dil ki baaji re shehnaai

Shehnaai..

Shehnaai..

So, these were the three song of the movie and this album gets a big 'thumbs-up' from my side. Hope you don't disagree much with the review, and thanks for reading.

Regards,

AH.
