KAHO NA PYAR HAI.

Originality:

Well another film starting with ‘K’ by Rakesh Roshan after films like Khudgarz, Kishen Kanhaiya, Khel, Khoon Bhari Maang, Karan Arjun and Koyla. This is a first attempt by the director to make a romantic film. The music has its moments – and full credit for that should go to the two songs rendered by Lucky Ali. The rest of the songs are passable.

The album begins with the obligatory title song. The ‘mukhada’ is definitely catchy, but real average ‘antaras’ pull this one down. Real dull lyrics by Ibrahim Ishq and passable singing makes this one an average start.

The two winners are ‘Na Tum Jaano Na Hum’ and ‘Ek Pal Ka Jeena’. The former is a duet by Lucky Ali and Ramya while the latter is a Lucky Ali solo. What can one say about these two – simply brilliant. Rajesh Roshan is in top form and has experimented with newer sounds making these two the best tracks of the album. And Lucky Ali – kudos to him. Singing is top class. Great stuff.

The other songs which deserve mention are ‘Pyar Ki Kashti Mein’, a duet by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik and a solo by Asha Bhosle – ‘Jaaneman Jaaneman’. The former sounds a little similar to Rajesh Roshan’s earlier work for his brother, but nonetheless has a god melody and beat to it and singing by both the lead vocals is good. The next one is set to a faster and more infectious beat though this one also has a déjà vu feeling to it. Both these songs are decent nonetheless.

The other two songs are real passable. A solo by Sanu and another solo by Babul Supriyo – both these ones are slow and a banal melody to it. But a mention must be made to the lovely lyrics by Saawan Kumar Tak in ‘Chaand Sitare’.

The album also has a sad version of the title song and an instrumental version. Both these sound better than the original title song as it does not have the boring ‘antaras’ to it.

Overall a good attempt on the soundtrack. Rajesh Roshan does shine with his brother.
