Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki is one of my favourite serials produced by Balaji Telefilms and telecast through STAR Plus. My wife and son say that I have been addicted to it like I am to Mouthshut. Perhaps they are right, because I find the the night 10-11 slots on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to be boring. The star attraction in Kahani Ghar Ghar Kiis Parvati, the Badi Bahu in the Agarwakl family. She is Sakshi Tanwar from Alwar in real life, highly educated with post-graduate qualifications, and trained in software. According to one newspaper review, she wanted to go in for IAS, but destiny put her in the small screen as the darling of the millions. There are many beautiful women in the small screen, but her beauty is of a different kind. Her beauty has a devine charm, which she radiates with her broad smile. She looks more beautiful when tears wet her rosy cheeks. Opposite her is Pallavi, different from her in all respects. Her real name is Sweta and she is from Delhi. I think both Sakshi and Sweta are the products of the Lady sriram College. I admire the keen sense of judgement of young Ekta Kapoor for chosing Sakshi and Sweta for playing the roles of Parvati and Pallavi respectively. Avantika is fine; her role as a Lawer, opposing her lawer husband in the Court Scene was really superb. Om's mother and grand mother have played their roles very effectively.

Male Characters

Om Agarwal, the eldest son, has done well, but in acting, his younger brother, Ajoy, is better. The younger one, always takes things likely, and I call him the happy-go-lucky one who has a liking for Orissa Handlooms. Most of his Kurtas are made of Sambalpuri Handloom.

The child playing the role of Om-Parvati's daughter is too brilliant for her age.

I am not going to write about the plot. I could not see the Serial during July and September, when I was in New York; but from the third week of September I have been watching the serial very regularly. I am disturbed, because the serial is projecting extra-marital relationships in such a manner as to influence the young mind in its favour. Ekta, do you agree with me ? If not, let us have a debate on the screen through STAR Plus, and I will come down to Bombay for recording, of course at your cost. I am also asking my other Mouthshut Members to think about this and let me know. It has a subliminal influence on the young mind. Whom are we copying in projecting 'Promiscuity'? The West ? Or is it saying that this is the life style of the affluent ?
