The long weekend of 1st May gave an ideal opportunity to explore a new property and I zeroed down upon Kadkani Riverside Resort, Coorg. The first pleasant surprise I got was a confirmed reservation even though I was booking just a week in advance.thanks to a last moment cancellation. The price I got for a 2N-3D package 2 adults and a baby, inclusive of all taxes and dining was pretty atttractive for a 4 star property.
Getting to Kadkani:I was told it would take about 5hrs 30 mins to get there from Bangalore. With the Mysore road facing bumper - bumper traffic due to the holiday getway crowd, I feared it might take longer. At the end it was not so bad, I made it in 6 hrs 15 mins from HSR Layout, including a 45 Min break courtsey my 2 yr old kid who wanted an extended break for breakfast. The road is fine till Hunsur after which it becomes pretty bad, but tolerable. The directions to the resort from Gonikoppa says right turn after India Garage. "More" Super MArket is a better landmark, turn right after More super market. The rest of the way is pretty much well littered with sign boards.
At Kadkani:The first impression one gets as one enters the resort is a reassurance that its a choice well made. Impressive lounge, chowki at the reception and the inviting swimming pool are well created and maintained.
I guess the resort was unprepared for the weekend rush and it took them quite sometime to get us checked in and also get us a table at the resturant. Individually each one of the resort employee seemed to be trying the best, I guess it was a larger issue of planning that made the check in slightly chaotic. But the helpful staff managed to reduce the discomfort.
The Room:I was told that only the basic cottage called "Dens" was available at the time of reservation and I had accepted it rather sceptically given the fact that I was travelling with a toddler. But the cottage was really spacious and set amidst greenery. Almost all modern aminities except the A/C was available in the room. The DTH ensured I did not miss the IPL matches
The Property and activities:I loved the property due to its vastness and the number of activities it provided. Boating, River Rafting, Volley ball, Golf, Trekking are some of theactivities for the physically active and for the folks who want to generally chill its an ideal place to hang out with a good book or a fishing rod.
Food:Food was pretty ok but spicy especially for people who dont eat hot food. The menu was largely Northie and I felt a dash of southie stuff would make it more interesting. Price for beer, soft drinks and snacks was pretty reasonable
Service:The staff were pretty helpful and were able to take care of all the needs of people travelling with kids. Some times slow for room service was understandable, as mentioned earlier, might be due to planning issue rather than slackness of individual.
Overall a nice experience and time and money well spent.
