There is a saying - ''Lightning strikes only once'' but for a change it has struck twice. Confused? We are now to analyse the new offering from RK productions, Kadhal Kondaen. The same technical team with a small change in the lead cast from the earlier movie form the core of this modern, aggressive psychopath story.

Kadhal Kondaen revolves around Dhanush (the birth and death of a psycho!) The way he is brought up, the place and the lighting all bring a sense of eeriness to us. He gets a engineering seat in the city college but no one likes him. He struggles to get along with the ultra modern college campus cuz he has not been exposed to all that before.

A caring priest, starving mates and torn clothes is all he knows in his ashram or orphanage. Due to the pressure exerted by the society he decides to return to his place but he is sent back by the priest played by veteran Nagesh, who assures him that everything would be fine. Indeed things tend to get good after he befriends with Sonia Agarwal. In the following scenes, she takes care of him as an angel and slowly the friendship gets stronger but after a while Dhanush starts to love Sonia. Meanwhile after the usual initial fights and mistakes Sonia falls in love with the another new comer who looks a bit annoying at times.

Poor Dhanush becomes the messenger between the pair and then all hell breaks loose when the respective parents get to know about the love story. Dhanush assures to help the pair and slowly we get to see the psycho in him come out. Finally the lovers unite in a gripping climax after a stunning rain dance cum fight by Dhanush. A lot has been said about the crude scenes involving kids in the second half, but it has been used as the fulcrum of the story. It is the reason why Dhanush is like a psycho in the movie.

Yuvan's score for the movie is the best from him. He has excelled in the songs and is at his best in the background score. Lyrics are of top notch quality. Picturisation is ultra modern and technically sound. Cinematography is brilliant, and the editing is good. The screenplay which is ultra crisp in the first half tends to loose the crispness in the second half but picks up during the climax. All the actors have done their part. Dhanush and Sonia steal the show. Sonia looks stunning in some scenes.

Selvaraghavan has handled his script well and his brother Dhanush has given stellar performance, boosting the film which boasts a brilliant technical crew. Full marks to all those involved with the movie.

APPLAUSE : Dhanush and Selvaraghavan. Yuvan, Yuvan and Yuvan.

AHEM! : Sloppy second half.

VERDICT : Stunning, scary and emotional psycho saga from Selvaraghavan.

UTHHEAVEN SCENE OF THE MOVIE : Rain dance by Dhanush in the climax.
