I just finished reading Balagi's comprehensive scrutiny on Educational System in India. I thought it was a very inspiring article for those youngsters who are under the dilemmas of what-to-do and what-not-to-do. All that I can say is think hard, consider, reconsider and you will get over it. Personally, I was patented for my mischievous deeds in high school. So, instead of galvanising your young minds to go out and set the world on fire (I assume you know whats best for you), I will scribble a review on Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa which was a great source of inspiration of my devilish personality in my juvenile days.

Kundan Shah's Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa is one of my personal favorites. I was in my 12th grade when I first watched it with a bunch of mates. We skipped school and had a ball of a time watching this movie. Be it one sided infatuations, fake report cards or dreams to make it big someday, most of the young lads and lasses relate themselves to this movie in someway or the other. I did.

The Thread: Based in Goa, KHKN is the tale of a young lad Sunil (Shahrukh Khan). Sunil's only dream in life is to make it big with his music someday. Along with his mates, Sunil forms a band and are awaiting a break at a local club called ''Chinatown''. In comes Anna (suchitra Krishnamurthy), Sunil's childhood friend. Sunil is madly in love with her and so is Chris (Deepak Tijori). Chris also plays in the same band as Sunil and is a complete antipode of Sunil's character. Sunil is a casual, frolic and nonstudious person whose only passions in life are his music and Anna. While, Chris is a capable, intellectual and a matured bloke who comes from an elite family.

Sunil unsuccessfully attempts to work his charms on Anna as she reciprocates to Chris. Turned green by Anna's feelings for Chris, Sunil hatches a plan to keep them apart. Discovering the truth, Anna and mates discard Sunil from the band. Sunil manages to bounce back by rescuing his band mates and Anna from getting Bronx cheered in Chinatown. Sunil wins back Anna and his mates' trust and also gets a new admirer in the form of a Con man.

KHKN covers ground as Chris and Anna split, caused by their rich and not-so-rich social status. Meanwhile, Sunil again backslides is his examinations (for the third time in a row). Unable to face his father, he produces a fake mark-sheet which indicates that he graduated with flying colors. Midst of his fake-graduation celebrations, Sunil driven by the guilt, discloses of his forgery. After a few emotional outbursts and a melodious song, Sunil is forgiven by his family and mates. This time, Sunil and Anna's families consider their marriage. Sunil is exhilarated as Anna gives a go to this association until he discovers Anna and Chris's subsisting affinity for each other. The movie culminates as Sunil subscribes Anna and eventually gets them married.

Cherishable and very enjoyable, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa is movie to be remembered. This movie happens to be a highlight in Shahrukh's career as a performer. Kundan Shah excels, repeating his magic after ''Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron''. Adorable cameos played by Naseerudin Shah, Ashutosh Gowarikar and Satish Shah. Music by Jatin-Lalit hit the right notes. ''Deewana'' and ''Aye Kaash Ke Hum'' are some of my personal favorites. The Chinatown song ''Sach Yeh Kahani'' is a Boney M's Rasputin rip off.

My personal favorite in this movie is Suchitra Krishnamurthy. Years back in the 80's, we used to live in the same building in Mumbai. I had a big time crush on this girl. Unfortunately, I was 9 years old and she was a model and had acted in a TV show called ''Chunauti'' and above all she had a boyfriend (Grrrrrrr). Years after I grew up into a man and to add to my sorrows she married Shekhar Kapur(Again...grrrrrrrrrrrr). Anyways... I was hoping to watch more movies of her, but she gave up her acting career for music.

All in all .. Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa.... rocks

ps: Hope you enjoy the read. Will look forward to your ratings and comments...
