Hindi cinema is indeed going through a evolution. While a few film-makers continue to have that laidback attitude, refusing to adjust to the fast-changing times and churning out products that are an extension of what they attempted in the 1970s and 1980s, a majority have decided to explore the uncharted path.A shining example of this statement is kank, directed by Karan Johar. The story is daringly different and that is where it scores .

Though the first half is ordinary and just when you’ve concluded that kank is one of those routine extra marital affair, the director and writer do an about-turn in the post-interval portions. The second half is more dramatic, more engaging and most importantly, has a series of deftly executed sequences

The verbal confrontations between couples, as also the developments that force them to divorce, are simply brilliant. The dramatic scenes in the pre-climax are awe-inspiring as well. On the flip side, the screenplay could’ve been tighter for a better impact. The second half, though interesting, has a few dragging portions that look like obstacles in this half. Slight trimming would only speed up the proceedings and enhance the impact.

The finale could’ve been better. The entire train track looks filmy. But these are minor blemishes anyways!

Getting the emotions right and making the viewer rush for the kerchief is indeed an arduous task, but director Karan Johar Shah handles these portions extremely well. Besides, the director has extracted wonderful performances from the entire cast .The screenplay is definitely a milestone in the recent time. The dialogue penned by Karan also deserves special mention.

Cinematography is first-rate. The film looks visually rich, indoors and outdoors both. The sets give the film an opulent look.

The energy and vigor with which SRK performs every scenee make you look at him in complete awe. His presence alone lights up even an ordinary sequence!Abhishek handles his part with complete understanding of the character and scores in the emotional

moments, mainly in the post-interval portions.Rani is elegance personified and conveys the pain of her character convincingly.Preity leaves a strong impact.Amitabh excels and brings the house down.

KANK is a well-made film that makes you laugh and cry, thanks to the strong emotional quotient in the film.It has all it takes to climb the ladder of success in days to come. A must-see
